Usually the bottom of the corporate ladder is shown the door. Interns do not pull for the bottom line so they will be kept around to pick up the slack.

My company start w/ newer hires, then bigger paychecks. But i dont see the billionaire owners of any of these companies coming to their aide which pisses me off. The CEOs still get their million dollar christmas bonus, while most companies do their layoffs right before christmas. Horrible policy. At my job it usually comes down from the CEOs, but the management can give them suggestions of who they need most/least.
Paid intern is kind of an oxymoron, right? Our interns earn college credit, id say they and most part-timers are safe.

The people that are usually fired during layoffs are usually the people that the managers from each area say are either redundant or unneeded. Sometimes the CEO will just fire an entire sector, with most either being transferred or fired
