If it is a private company the owner does. It is his/her company, the owner answers to no one. If it is a public company the shareholders own the company. The top 4-10 shareholders (largest stock holdings) are generally members of the board of directors, a subcommittee of which usually called the compensation committee decides on the salary of the CEO and other top executives. But they the CEO, etc are not the owners of a publicly traded company. |
