tommy w | Who out there hates shopping at Wal-Mart? Why or why not? Also, should there be a nation-wide boycott of it? ? |
I could give you guys all of the reasons that I (for the most part) hate Wal-Mart...but that would take way, way too long.
I'm sick of that store...everywhere you go, there's a Wal-Mart.
I think that there should be a nationwide boycott of that store...and demand an end to Wal-Mart's monopoly of the department store industry....we need other dept. stores, too...such as Target, Sears, JC Penny, Kohl's, etc., etc.
Do you think that there should be a nationwide boycott of Wal-Mart? Why or why not?
Thanks.
Additional Details Let me say this.
I realize that Wal-Mart is the only store that a lot of people have...but I stand by my stance on a nation-wide boycott of that store.
That's the only way that Wal-Mart will listen to the American people. |

I think Wal-Mart offers poor wages and health care, as well as steals business from local small businesses, driving them to bakruptcy. It's been 3 years since I stepped in a Wal-Mart and I don't miss it! |

I hate wal-mart too. I mean seriously, it's the only big place where I live. I have to drive 30 mins or longer just to get to another department store. |

I don't know where you live but in my town we do have all of those stores. They are all pretty new so i think weather people know it or not they are boycotting wal-mart just because there is finally a new store in town and thats where they always go. |

Yes, I boycott this monster at all costs, and wish more sheeple would as well.
Here's my view:
Only Wal-mart itself and its suppliers (mostly in Asia..) profit from their operations. They don't pay competitive local wages, they simply can't, in order to maintain their market position. When a Wal-mart store "comes to town", they tend to destroy local and smaller competitors by operating "at loss", and in many rural markets, hold an absolute monopoly. This is no mistake. They can simply absorb the loss in one market segment while covering it with the profits from another, until of course, the competition is gone. Then, yes, prices will creep upwards. Business 101.
They have cost the U.S. economy thousands of decent paying manufacturing and service jobs, further widening the gap between rich and poor in this country, as well as contributing greatly to the decline of the middle class.
I'm not rich by far, and yes, I do pay a bit more for goods that I need. I simply do a little research and try to buy items that at least bolster our national and local economies, if only in the sense that our workers are compensated well for the production aspect, even though the company is foreign owned.(Admittedly, this isnt always easy or possible.)
Remember people, for every dollar you save at "Wally-world" you just might be costing yourself 2-3 in your lifetime. Don't take my word for it though, the truth is out there for the curious. |

A nationwide boycott is way too drastic. I think a lot of us DO hate shopping at Wal-Mart, but with the lousy economy it's necessary for many of us to shop there, including myself.
A lot of the most common answers would be lack of customer service, a lot of disgusting people shopping there (not all, but more than you seem to find at Target and regular grocery stores), hard to find certain things, 1-mile walks from your parking spot, etc. |

I myself haven't had a bad experience from Wal-Mart so I haven't encountered a reason to boycott Wal-Mart. If you gave me a reason then maybe I would boycott if I felt the reason(s) was/were substantial. |

Survival of the fittest, Im paying enough for my property taxes, gas, and utilities......If they can save me a few bucks, then I am going to shop there. If enough people felt like your, they would be out of business, but the fact is the majority does not agree with you. And for that reason they will continue to thrive and make millions in profits |

American Dissenter

To all Unions read this:
If the Unions can do better - why don't they start their business from scratch that Samuel "Mr. Sam" Moore Walton(Helen Walton supporting through her father)and James "Bud" Lawrence Walton did in 1962.
Walmart is a company like others from the US and other countries that have the right earn profits without being told how to make any money.
The day that an American could work and retire from one company died in the early 1970s. All pensions to non-managers,except Union and maybe government, have been replaced with the 401k or another version of it.
No US business is worker friendly and so they find ways to fire or layoff the higher paid employees to replaced them with cheaper wages.
Be aware that the majority of all businesses retail, fast food, etc try to hire young people do not care enough that they are paid the least amount. Very become aware and try to do something.
The truth that Affluent and poweful people do not want you to see. At YouTube: George Carlin. Who Really Controls America. - http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=cN3xTMXPkc8
BOYCOTT:
Boycotting them will be FAIL especially with the US Economy faltering and jobs becoming scarce. Walmart wages begin slightly higher than most competitors with the possible exception of BJs Wholesale and Costco.
Neither 2008 US Presidential candidate will help you, especially the one from Illinois who claims to support the ordinary US worker and refused to come to the aid of a whistle-blower(Sam's Club 6625 in San Fernando California) who was asking for him and his party to aid him.
Walmart is number 1 in the world and exchanging that position with Exxon-Mobil the past few years. They offer Sick hours, Bonuses(depending on sales), Pay-raise yearly, Travel palns, Real Estate, Computer Based Learning(CBLs), Benefits(Health and Dental), Personal hours and Vacations to ALL associates to include non-managers.
How Walmart is BETTER than other worldwide corporations:
The number 1 Private Security Corporation in the world: Securitas (the main company in Stockholm Sweeden became Niscayah in April 2008: niscayah.com) does NOT offer half of Walmart offer, morover, these are offered to managers with regular security guards getting no vacation hours, no sick hours and they never get raises unless the contract makes it mandatory an usually they are government as in Los Angeles. The Post Commander rarely allow their subordinate a chance to study on the computer to learn more and have a chance for promotion. The Contract Manager usually find a way to keep the money that could be used for a pay-raise. You have a better chance of a career at Walmart than Niscayah or Securitas USA. Security Guards hit a ceiling once they reach Post Commander and most NEVER go above $20 an hour.
Walmart is better than most corporations.
Will Securitas/Niscayah investigate:
A suggestion that I hope reaches Rickard Gille, Director of Human Resources of Niscayah (owner of subsidiary Securitas USA, website niscayah.us)
Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar California:
Investigate if a Sexual Harassment complaint has merit.
A portly caucasian male, environmental services(Janitor),of the grave yard shift made a Sexual Harassment complaint on a male security guard an a female guard who saw the complaint stated that is was exaggerated since there was no proof that it had been going a few months on what she saw on the copy of the complaint in May 2008.
A shift supervisor told that security guard that the Los Angeles County Police Department removed him from the post when if fact the Securitas Contract Manager,an old African-American woman, for the Los Angeles County Hospital was the one who gave the order of removal.
WHAT HAPPENED:
No proof of sexual harassment was found otherwise this man's guard card would had been revoked.
He was fired because he agreed with the Area Human Resources Manager that a joke was inappropriate, but no proof of sexual harassment was found. This took place at the Wilshire office near downtown Los Angeles. Other people who work on the 11th floor said is was all bs. Before removal no other spot was offered while the so-called investigation took place.
His status at the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services,BSIS,shows his record as clear. Many others have complained about favoritism there especially on the 2 short hispanic females of the morning shift.
Also an old Armenian guard was removed from Olive View Medical Center.
An Iranian was removed from the Clinic in San Fernando California under allegations he saw a guard surfing the internet for porn and the female boss looking the other way so he removed him and sent him to Sylmar. |
