Treat all callers as if they were your aunt calling for help. Realize that people who call you that have a bad experience will tell 10 people that your company sucks, those who have a good experience will tell no one. If you are trained by your company, this will be worth at least 3 college courses, and will help you manage yourself and others wherever you go. |

you want to say "I stay motivated by realizing I'm way smarter than dumbsh!ts like you"...
I'd say...I stay motivated knowing that I could make the next person I talk to's day by resolving their issue---I motivate my employees by showing them how even tho most of their calls are 'all the same' to THEM, it's the most important thing to the person on the other end of the phone line. |

Nobody mentioned the most important factor in motivating your employees, which in my opinion is POSITIVE FEEDBACK. Everyone does something well, and when they do it, let them know. Reinforce the positive, and you will get more of it. We all appreciate hearing that we did a good job. This is true for any employee in any role.
As a manager, what should be motivating you--again this is just my opinion--is improving your results, and building a sense of teamwork. |

As a former call center employee, I assume that question derives from the fact that you are dealing with dumbos calling on the phone complaining about god only knows what. So how would you stay motivated?
Personally, I feel that this job has offered me a great learning experience, on of the things I love about my job is that I learn something new every day (and ya better be able to cite something) and that keeps me motivated. The job also gives me the opportunity to teach others what I have learned, and that not only provides motivation but personal satisfaction that I can help a fellow employee, and help a customer in need by teaching him/her something new that will solve their problems.
