Why Bail Out Private Chrysler?
Chrysler was brought by a group of investor, what's the direct benefit of United States tax payer's money given to a non-US company?

Nick R
They're not after benefiting the tax payers (generally speaking), but to preserve more jobs, and not cause any more of an economic meltdown by having any of the automakers go under.

1. It's not a gift, it's a loan. http://www.chryslerllc.com/en/
2. 80.1% is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, a multi-national corporation headquartered in New York City. Only 19.9% is owned by Daimler AG.

I'm not saying the above facts justify the loan, but let's be clear about the situation.

3. The direct benefits to US taxpayers will be that more US citizens will be paying taxes, because they will have jobs, so correspondingly fewer Welfare-type benefits will need to be paid from our taxes for those workers. Presumably, we will all benefit from the boost to the economy, the availability of better-quality, more fuel-efficient, American-made cars and the return on the loans.

James Q
What is the benefit if it was a US company? We as a group of people (Us Tax Payers) should not be bailing out anybody. If US companies and the US companies that have become global would make quality products and sell them at a price that reflects the investment instead of how much they can soak us for them; then the problem would take care of it's self. People have to fail as do companies. The jobs lost will be replaced by whoever picks up the slack of the company not producing anymore. If Chrysler fails, there will be thousands of people that were buying their cars that will be buying somebody elses cars and they will need more people to make and market their cars etc... It will be a temporary set back for the people that are working for Chrysler and the support business'. The best structured and quality busness' will survive. The ones that over spend and sell crap will fail. Nothing wrong with that. Ford, Chrysler and Chevy have been making crap for many years and we have been paying through the nose for their crap. Even the Toyota's that are made in the USA are crap. Making a good produt in the USA is way down the list of priorities. They worry about how many minorities they hire, if they have enough 15 minute breaks, if they have this insurance and that for the employees. They try to make their cars cool or whatever they need to be for the new buying generation. They worry about marketing with gimmics etc.. Nobody says "Here, a quality product that does what it suppose to do and does it for a long time" ...
If a family in my town has a problem, needs food loses a house etc. I will be there to help them.. If Chrysler or Chevy needs help let somebody in their neighborhood help them. You know like Microsoft and other big companies that are doing good..
When they bail these companies out it devalues our money and we would do just as bad paying our valued money for welfare for a few years as things even out.
Re-tooling??? What a crock.. I was driving a Ford fiesta in the 80s that was getting 40 plus miles per gallon, and the Honda Civic was doing better than that. The Ford Fiesta had over 200 thousand miles on it and still rolling down the road getting over 40 miles per gallon. Big companies and our govenors are in bed together, I think we need to wake up and OPEN our eyes... People who sleep together should not be deciding each others pay and raises. That is why we don't allow nepotism in public jobs.OK I've had my rant...

Using tax payers money and forced upon them by the power of state, it would be the same as the socialism in China, or as socialist economic measures taken by European nations.

Dont unless you are convinced they can pay the loan back and you want to keep American jobs.
