Why General motors is going down day by day?
Decent answers please,,,

They have weigh too heavy on their trucks and SUVs. That what was keeping them alive, and now that gas prices have gone up,they have no sales and took them by suprise. They are trying to clean up the mess, but it is just piled too high for them.

Hammertime
First issue is the rising fuel costs, GM's top selling cars were the larger suv models, Tahoe, escalade, full size trucks etc..Now that fuel prices are through the roof, alot of consumers are not buying those cars..The Japanese cars are kicking their butt because of their fuel efficient cars...

micro managment by people that don't know how to manage.
they worry more about numbers than quaility. the managers don't care about the plants they are in the only want to move up the ladder as fast as they can. They will even lie and decieve to get there. People at GM care for themselves only and not the company or their own plant. Managment is moved around so much they can't make things better they just leave them broke and move on and hope some one else will fix it.

Because many of their products are competition against each other. Take the Yukon, Denali, Escalade, Suburban, and Blazer. All almost identical vehicles competition against each other.
They are also trying to go with the look in their car line that simulates the European cars. The bland, four door sedans. Instead of going to what people really are looking for in a GM product. A good example of this (even though its not GM), is the Ford mustang. It looks like the 67 mustang and they have sold every model built. GM needs to be like GM, and not like Toyota, or Honda.
The government could help too buy charging the same kind of tariffs on imported vehicles as the foreign countries do on our vehicles. This way, the prices would be more competitive.
Lastly, The factories that are here in the USA that are building cars manufactured by foreign governments need to be mandatory UAW--all of them.

bsbmo33
They have laid off employees trying to keep their profits up. The Auto Manufacturing Industry here in the USA has to pay for health care. Yea for unions!!!! Auto Manufacturing Industries in other countries don't have to worry about health care because it is paid by the government. This keeps wages lower and prices more competitive. We need universal health care. However the Auto industry such as GM has to pay health care for their employees and they still try to keep their prices up to make a profit. The CEO's of GM are still making big bucks. Who makes the cars anyway? Labor! Who wants a big car at the price of gas today. Capitalism isn't working like it once was. Floundering trying to keep up. Industries are merging. Employees are being laid off, made to work less hours. GM should go down down down down down and out the door. If they can't pay their employees the wages they deserve. This may not be the answer you are looking for, but it is what I perceive and to answer your question.

fathead
Well they blew off Carlos and this basically says they want to continue flying solo. Given their track record is there any reason why the stock WOULDN'T be going down every day?

Loollea
the cost of vehicles, not as many sales
and allowing foreign car makers (Honda & Toyota)
to come in and take over

Ben
I think the day of the big so-so car is past. There cars are less than inspired and expensive. Last American car I owned was a Chevy Montie Carlo 80 V8 400 with the performance pack. I was happy with it till a friend left her spider at the house for me to work on. First drive I was sold.Since then its been Honda's Toyota's and a Triumph.

Hard Crowbar
can you say like $45+ per hour for each employee?

they have priced themselves out of a job, and GM has to make the cars too expensive (for any average joe to want to purchase a vehicle that costs half as much (or more) as their house does) due to the cost of wages that they (GM) dish out.

dipesh_pan143
because that motors are general. but we need some thing like different.

they don't make cars that last very long. i know simple answer but thats the bottom line. my honda has 102,000 miles and still going. if you put that much on a modern GM (excluding the old ones) there still running. it would fall apart. the car companies got greedy and made cheaper parts so the quality in the car fell. why get a car that only good for about 70,000 when you can get a honda or toyota that'll last way beyond 100,000 miles.

Bad ideas years ago. Management that did not take the time to understand what people wanted.

trade unions demanding too much and finally having to loose their jobs because of it.

There are many other reasons but it is mostly due to managers that denied what was happening and unions that kept wanting more and more without considering if the company could sustain their demands.

Rather than spend time wondering why GM is going down, time and energy would be best spent celebrating the fact that it is. Perhaps now people will wake up and employ the same GM (and Ford, etc) engineers and tradespeople in finally addressing the the need for improved mass transit. Automobiles represent a horrific attack on the environment and are responsible for much global warming.
Perhaps the most dangerous industrialist of all time, Henry Ford and his cockamamie ideas about assembly line madness and putting a car into every family are now shown as the fallacious thinking they were. The mass production of the automobile at the expense of humanity and the Earth we share is a devastating legacy which we are slowly learning to correct. Transporting one or two people in a one or two ton hunk of metal and glass, all the while spewing its toxic waste into the air, is a most inefficient method of movement.
Toast the demise of GM and pray the other automobile manufacturers, both in the US and worldwide, tank in a simular fashion.
