Why are Walmarts so dirty and what happened to quality?
More and more I am beggining to hate Walmart. My kids call it the unmentionable place. First, they are dirty (at least the ones in NC are). Second, they don't train their employees how to be polite. And third, they have lousy products. Oh, and their return policy-terrible. What do you think?
Additional Details
This is for Oddball: 1. I am not a liberal. 2. My lousy education did teach me to use verb tenses properly. It should be "you were". My disliking of Walmart has nothing to do with my party affiliation.

That may be the case. Remember that the name Wal-Mart describes a particular level of quality, and it's possible that the low quality of service you found is necessary to help maintain its image as a leading supplier of products at low prices. Just an idea.

they are all about profit and being cheap

stupid nickname.
maybe you should just stop shopping there and find some other big retail market place,eh?

I agree, but what is scary, I went to the local wal-mart and found that they were selling flare guns right off the rack, No locked case no glass, right of the shelf. When I called for the manager and showed this to him he acted like it was no big deal. Yes they may only be flare guns, but those flares are 12 gauge charges, they are still 12 gauge primers and caps. Any 7 yr old kid could pull one off the rack load it and discharge it right there in the store. I called the local authorities to report it but they said there was nothing they could do unless someone was hurt. I guess its going to take a fatallity and a law-suit to get them to do the right thing.

Who cares...........Dont go there

I think that you shouldn't shop there anymore. Most businessess really don't care anymore. They figure that they have so much business, that they don't even need to try because you'll shop there no matter what.

Most I've been to are clean. Most I've been to are Super Wal-marts. Maybe non super wal-marts, because they don't have food/produce don't have to adhere to the same cleaning requirements.

Wal-mart does sell a lot of crap and move a bunch of inventory. I'm a stock supervisor, not at wal-mart, and know if you sell a lot, you keep selling. You don't stop to clean up after yourself all the time.

Wal Mart "SMOKED" the American market, started out small town, 3,500 population in Bentonville, Ark. all american made textile products. Everything is on downside now ! Sliding down the hill living on reputation as long as they can, but it was preplanned !

Remember last year when Wal Mart ran into trouble with hiring illegal immagrants? Those were the people that would go around to different Wal Marts during the year and wax and clean the floors and basically make the stores look nice.

Yeah, Wal-Mart sucks.

averyannasheridantaylor
Yeah I can totoaly agree my mom used to go to a walmart on Sunset but it sucked the isleds were too small they got rid of my mom's shampoo and they just have some bad products. The one we go to now is better but it isn't perfect. They have some shelves that are messy but, they have clean fresh smelling bathrooms and they have good products so not all Wall Marts are bad but the majority of them can suck.

mia
I guess it is not just me who has noticed this. I can't stand going to Walmart because of how dirty the place is where I live in New York. I prefer going to Target. They are so much cleaner and it's not a zoo even at peak holidays.

Another Wal-Mart hater heard from. You sorry Communism loving, uneducated Liberals will just not quit with the lies. Will you?

I bet it really upsets you that the multi-millions of Wal-Mart shoppers each day, don't listen to your garbage.

You don't have to like or shop there. Go to the higher priced stores that sell poor quality union made products. Yes, when the unions come in, then quality goes in the trash. When a company is allowed to set and enforce quality standards, it means a loss of control for the unions. They will not let this happen.

I know your poor liberal education never taught you to think properly and look at the issues evenly, but, looking at the Auto Industry and how the unions screwed it up will teach you something. Thousands of jobs a year are lost due to the shutting down of plants. Why? Because the union control doesn't allow for quality and the American people buy foriegn cars of high quality. The foriegn cars are built in non-union plants in the U.S.. Isn't that amazing. Non-union Auto plants build high quality cars and union plants build poor quality cars. "How can this be" you ask? Because you was poorly educated by Liberals in control of the School system (NEA is a Union and dictates how and what you are taught). The above is documented and easily found on the Intenet.

One last example. When the Wal-Mart in my town has job openings, $6 - $10 per hour, depending on the job, they get 100-300 people, per job opening, standing in line applying for them. A Unionized Mfgring plant that pay $12 per hour to start, with quarnteed pay increases and union required benifits, cannot get one applicant. This is because the people know that the unions will force them to pay dues that do nothing but make the leaders rich and support America hating Liberals and their agendas. Why pay $1 -$5 an hour in union dues that do nothing but allow others to live high on the hog and try to destroy this Country?

Grow up and use that God given brain for something other than to keep your body in balance.

cdfrx
You can't have it all. Everyone wants everything ultra cheap, clean and great service. Some part of that is going to have to give because there is not enough money to support each aspect of the retail experience. If you don't like the product Walmart is offering let your feet do the talking. Go to a mom and pop operation and pay alittle more.

mcghankathy
Biggest, richest corporation in the US, and they don't pay for health insurance for employees. They are dirty, nasty, cheap places that sell low quality ****. I hope they all get closed down. If the guy owns more than any other retailer in the US, why can't he pay for decent training, health insurance and benefits, like day care, dental, etc.?? Because he is rich and dosen't care about the working poor.

lucky we don't have wal-marks but must companies only really care about profits

ThePeskyWabbit
Because the bulk of people working in walmarts responsible for keeping them clean are young people, teenagers, and early 20s. Young people weren't even taught to keep their rooms clean or how to do chores in their own homes. How would we expect them to know how to keep a store clean?

It may just be the area. I know the one where I live is kept up pretty good and the associates are okay. However, I've been to some Wal Marts that are kinda like how you described.

Tim
I haven't noticed the ones around here being dirty, but I agree that their employees are rude. You know why they do it? Because you still shop there. If you don't like it, go somewhere else-- I usually go to Target. If enough people stop shopping at WalMart, they'll have to shape up.
