Because they get a rotton wage from a company that makes millions in profit. Their jobs are really boring and always under threat. The customers aren't terribly friendly and the management often make rediculous demands on the staff to sell more products.
I used to work in a high street bank, but couldn't stand it, so I left. |

Oh I don't know, the staff in my local HSBC are really quite jolly and sometimes there is even a MAN behind the glass, but I suspect he's for when there is a particularly tricky deposit to handle |

because they are taking care of other peoples money and wish it was their own |

Maybe it is because they do actually realise after all, that the industry they are involved in is one which is pure robbery and the "man in the street" is the usual victim. |

Because they're taught not to give into salesmen that come into to the Bank trying to push their services. The Bank has contracts with certain companies and work hard to be loyal to them, and they stress loyality on all levels. The tellers in which your trying to sell to are defiantly the wrong people you want to reach. Come up with a good business plan and send it to one of the corporate head wigs and you'll get more sells that ways and less headaches. One inside tip: Tellers love small gifts and free samples they'll defiantly help promote your cause if your extra nice! Best wishes |

It could be they don't have time for sales calls. |

They're not really miserable. It's part of the training. Everyday, after a fixed period of looking stern and stolid, they take turns in retiring to a back room, where they hopelessly scream with laughter and mirth at what they have put us all through during the week!! |

Several reasons:
1 the money is rubbish compared to the responisibility
2 Banks are bullies - they treat their staff badly
3 the staff are set targets for sales and get a B*llocking if they miss the target.
4 Customers are very rude most of the time.
5 You are expected to have the patience of a saint.
Finally why are you so upset about this - they don't have to buy your products. |
