Gas prices are high because crude oil prices are high for two reasons.
1. World demand for petroleum products is increasing due to economic and population growth especially in China and India and the supply of crude is not increasing as fast.
2. Crude oil is priced in dollars and the dollar is weak due to our growing national debt and low interest rates.
Oil company profits are high but as a percentage of sales not that great. Also, the oil companies need to make money to invest in further oil exploration and alternative energy technology.
If the government raises tax on oil companies or puts price controls in place contact me I'll sell you one of my horses. You'll need one cause the long gas lines of the 70's will return.

A big part of the reason is the value of American dollars has fallen so drastically and it takes more money to buy the crude oil in the foreign countries. It's very complicated and most of us don't understand anything about it except that it costs too much to fill our gas tanks, and the oil companies are horrifically greedy.

you want to no why gas prices are high because its about the war in iraqu the prices are high so the people around the world are paying for all the military wepondry and the troops stationed there and for the long drawn out time they will be there it will go on for years and years and no end sight of the ending of this and also america wants to claim all the gas fields and pipelines there for themelves and to keep it for them selves and charge what the like for gas so they can fund the contunueing war over there i am a former sas commander and was there for 10years and no that the countries involved in the war also want to have and control the gas fields also as soon as the people wake up and get rid of there goverment i n power and someone with common sense can turn around and start dropping the cost of gas and when that happens then we have cheap gas prices and we can start withdrawing our troops out and let the people of the world have fair and cheap gas then
