Why are people anti starbucks?

Did the Starbucks company do something wrong? Ethics? Is it just b/c it is expensive?

wasn't starbucks the one that tried charging $100 per case of water to the firefighters that were trying to clean up 9/11? personally that's why i've got issues with them. yeah they issued an apology and then donated some money but the fact that they even did that in the first place disgusts me.

They come in and take over a neighborhood and say no other coffee shops can open there. I think this may have changed recently, but that's one bad thing they did.

Anyone in eastern PA or New Jersey can tell you that Wawa is a million times better than Starbucks.

Some people just don't like coffee. But myself, I LOVE Starbucks.

I used to go to starbucks all the time. But there coffe really isnt great. It costs way too much for coffee. $4 bucks is too much for a drink! Im staying away from there... they rip u off!

On his way to the ear piercing place, Bart passes at least two Starbucks, then a soon-to-be-opening Starbucks, all adjacent to each other. When he gets to the ear-piercing place, he tells the guy that he wants his ear pierced, then the guy tells him "Better hurry up! In five minutes, this place is becoming a Starbucks!" Bart then walks out with his new piercing (and a Starbucks beverage) with every single store in the mall a Starbucks.

The movie Fight Club depicts anti-capitalist guerrillas destroying a chain coffee house (clearly a thinly-veiled Starbucks) similar to the attack on a branch of Starbucks during the WTO meeting in Seattle

Comedian Lewis Black's rants about "a Starbucks across the street from a Starbucks" in his 2002 special and album The End of the Universe. One of the stores referred to by Black is located at Westheimer Rd and Post Oak Blvd in Houston which is across from the Galleria Mall which has two locations. Two fictional Starbucks across the street from each other was also the basis for a joke in the movie Best in Show in 2000, as well as the parody Farbucks coffee chain in the movie Shrek 2.

Well, already a host of opinions have been voiced. Here is my take on why people dislike Starbucks

* The coffee is overpriced and sub-standard
* They underpay the farmers they source the coffee from
* While indulging in social marketing which shows that they really care about the coffee growers; try finding out the margins they make on the coffee and what percent is passed to farmers.
* They have destroyed local businesses (coffee shops) which seems to be the mission statement of most chains.
* You pay more for the ambience at a Starbucks than you do for the coffee.

Bitter, lukewarm, and overpriced.
On a trip out to Redmond, WA last year, I was told by the locals that the place to get good coffee was Peets.

I don't know. I made money buying and selling their stock. They are growing rapidly. Maybe it is the "snobbery" of very expensive "designer" beverages. I drink cheap coffee. Maybe it is the mermaid symbol. Maybe that it is from Seattle.

it is way too expensive. how they reference the sizes bothers me too.

The coffee sucks, they treat the employees poorly and they're taking out seats to replace them with merchandise counters.

difficult question. not as easy as it seems. in my opinion. people seem to be against things, companies or a group of people they dont know. people hate because they are jealous of what others have that they dont. and it doesnt have to be material things, it could be knowledge. is all of this right? no, but it is what it is. if we want to change things we have to start with one person at a time.

in regards to starbucks, it is such a simple idea people might be angry that they didnt have the idea first.

and another thing. by the increase in popularity of coffee this increase is actually helping poor people in poor coffee producing countries.
