Sounds like a case of that familair disease you find amongst workers in many oragnisiations at the moment, I find British Gas have the worse case of it. It's called:
"Idon'tknowwhatthef*ckIamdoingandIcan'... |

Sorry to disagree with you, but my experience of Tesco is the opposite to yours. I find the staff in my local branch extremely helpful and customer-focused, just like they should be. Perhaps everyone was having a bad day. |

It seems to be Tesco policy, and a moronic one at that.
I've been in a queue in Tescos when exactly the same thing happened. The guy in front of me spent £4.87 and only had a £5 Tesco voucher. The manager tried to find a 13p item to solve the impass, but in the end the guy had his shopping put to one side and went home to get some money to pay for it - I don't know if he went back.
Of course, the queue (I was in my lunchbreak, by the way) got longer and longer as this farce played out.
Nice one Tesco. Not. |

Brain dead about sums that up.... it is totally ridiculous. I shop at Tesco all the time, as it local to me....
Problem is, that it is just a job... by being awkward to you, she doesn't get any less pay... so in her eyes... who gives a flying Fook. |

Just because you couldn't use your voucher doesn't mean everyone who works there is brain dead ffs!
I Use them as my local store and have my groceries delivered every week and I do some other shopping there too. I have had no more problems than any other store. |

Hello, customer services counter. Just because you've experienced the YTS trainee checkout assistant you walk out the store?
More fool you for not asking to speak to a supervisor. |

there was a story in the paper today about a 47 yr old grandmother being asked for proof of age when trying to buy wine in tesco |

That was the girl on the checkout being a B***h to be honest. I used to work for Tesco as a supervisor and in those cases we would have just given the 3p change, thats what we were told to do if it was under £1. What a stupid person she was!!!! |

i havent experienced anything like this but OMG thats ridiculous!!! i just hate the attitudes of the shop assistants!!! |

If you were not bothered about the change I cant see why she did'nt let you use the voucher, I work for another major supermarket and we would have accepted the voucher on the understanding that you are happy about not receiving the change anyway it was only 3p, she sounds like a bit of a jobsworth to me. |

its if you spend say £10 they can take the 5 off thats how it works so they still make money. |

i think what she meant is they don`t give change on vouchers .you would not have got the three p back. |

you should write a letter of complaint to the Manager. I was stopped by security when the alarm went off and he followed me, very embarrassing, all because the assistant forgot to remove a security tag from an item of clothing. As a result of my letter, I received a 50 e voucher.
Good luck I may add it was Tesco also |

I had a similar thing happen to me but the lady wasnt rude she just expained that they couldnt accept my voucher for ten pounds as i hadnt spent it all and it was tescos policy that they couldnt give money change on vouchers whatever the amount so i had to pay in cash for the remainder of my shopping ( I had vouchers for 28pound and i spent 26.73). I didnt complain as I used the voucher next time I shopped there. If its the companys policy then no one can do otherwise to bend the rules. |

It was obviously beyond her resources to add 3p to your shopping.
Tesco - every little bureaucrat doesn't help! |

I think that the staff in Tescos generally are rude. I try and avoid shopping there on principle because it's such a miserable experience on a regular basis. |

I don't believe she had any right to refuse your voucher.
I assume you still have the voucher, if so read the terms & conditions on it.
I believe you should find that it will be accepted in payment, or part payment of goods sold by Tesco.
There may be a proviso that change is not given. In your case the cashier should have accepted the voucher and if change is not given then she shoud have told you that the 3p leftover could not be refunded.
My advice is to ask to see the manager of the store and tell him/her what happened.
You can also submit an online complaint form to Tesco at:
http://www.tesco.com/help/contact/contactus1.asp

I work in Tesco and i don't think we are stupid or braindead, you should have asked for the manager or checkout team leader who would have sorted the issue out for you |

My my my what a pitiful and simple life you have.
You angered me with your use of wording. Your use of the word brain-dead is immature and shows you up to be a person of little intelligence, as does your poor grammar. So look at yourself first. I would say you need to grow up.
Wait 'til you get a problem! How will you deal with it. Throw a teddy out?
Try donating to your local children's hospital who try to help brain damaged and critically ill children. My friends young daughter who is on life support and unable to walk into a Tesco at all.
Why be small minded?
Unless you are desperately poor and need shelter why quibble over something so petty. Anyway £5?? Doesnt buy a meal anyway! What can you buy for £4.97? Nothing.
Spent £40 and make the journey worthwhile, take some nice food home for someone to make for you.
Life is far too short and you are spoiling your own day. |

Part time Tesco Worker
|
Before you judge me, im part time as a student too. Not a person working at Tescos for the rest of my life.
Also, I hate Tescos a lot more then anyone one of yous... trust me on that.
But most of you people are wrong here and are very small minded to immediately think this worker was wrong and start cursing at all workers.
The reason you cant pay a £5 coupon for anything under is that the till simply will not let you. It is programmed to take £5 off shopping but it cant take £5 off something that does not equal to the amount of £5.
Its like buying alcohol at 22.01. No we cant let you away with 1 minute because the till just does not register alcohol sells after 10pm since thats what its programmed to do.
So apparently this worker was just doing thier job and the Manager/Team leader was just trying to help finding something for 13p.
But now you help with stereotyping the general public for being even more retardedly stupid and ignorant than these workers.
Dont know how old the post and topic is etc but I had to clarify for anyone else who comes across this. |

I cant get over the person that posted the comment, if it's a five quid voucher, obviously you have to spend a fiver unless they give change or leave that amount on the card which is why you should have asked instead of waiting in a queue and proving how brain dead you are by getting wound up by this when you could have asked someone as soon as you walked in the door instead of waiting as long as you did and embarassing every one in the shop and whatever unlucky person gave birth to you! |
