Coop 366 | Why are the Oil Companies blaming others for the price increase, don't they own their own wells? |
|
|

Well believe it or not we get only about 20% of our total oil from mideast sources. A great deal of our oil comes from Canada and Mexico and a small amount is produced from domestic wells. Nonetheless, the OPEC nations largely control pricing and the big oil companies take their obscene profits right off the top thereby leaving the consumer paying the outrageous tab at the pump.
Danny J... sober up pal, not only do you have NO idea what you are talking about, you can't even begin to express it properly. |

It's probably largely because they just plain want someone else to blame. Nobody likes to accept responsibility for a bad thing, after all, and it's especially bad if you're in business.
They could also argue that it's the net affect of ALL oil supply and demand that determines prices, so they're not individually responsible for prices, but that's not a very good argument. |

first of all they do dig their own wells but they do it in other countries. if another country is found to have pockets of oil reserves, they have to 1. ask for permission to drill. 2. work out payment ratio, usually 60% to 40%. 3. get the crude oil shipped to a refinery. and all that costs money. now look at it this way we drill for oil in alaska but sell it to the chinese? it is all about the money. also the oil companies have not built a new refinery in the united states in over twenty years. that is very important because if one goes down it takes longer to refine the crude to fuels. also the folks in the united states have a "not in my back yard" attitude when it come to drilling for oil. |

They get oil mainly from other countries. Now a days, you barley see oil coming from the US. It's usually from the Middle-East or Africa. |
