Only power sellers can really make a profit, it cost so much to list an item, then paypal takes their bit and with the FVF and all you can only make a sibbit. Also cost of postage has risen, so that makes a difference.

Wow! Now there is a good question. I've heard some people call eBay - greedbay. eBay can be costly. It can be used as a great tool to drive people to your website.
When a customer purchases from me on eBay I send them a thank you. Token of my appreciation giving them the opportunity to purchase from my website at 10% discount or free shipping. I have gained some very good customers through eBay.

eBay has turned into GreedBay!! Also, good old Bill has said that they do not want stores on eBay any longer -- they take up too much of their server space acting as a "warehouse"!! eBay wants to go back to "core" (auctions) again. eBay is such a huge corporation, they, as with any huge corporation, can get away with anything they want, do anything they want just to get the most money out of their members!! They make a good chunck of change -- I don't know the percentage, but their final value fees for the stores is now up to 10% of the sale!! PLUS the monthly fee they charge for having a store, plus all the bells and whistles one chooses to use -- so, with all that, you can see how much they are "raking" in. With Auctions, it's the same, except that they get money faster as the usual auction time is 7 days. So, if your item doesn't sell within the first 7 days, you relist and pay the same fee all over again!! SUPPOSEDLY, if the item sells the 2nd time around, you get refunded for the first listing fee, but that doesn't happen 100% of the time!!! I USED to be an eBay Power Seller -- got out last July after this last rate increase!! Just couldn't justify or afford the higher fees!!! Plus the fact that the stores were taken out of the search -- so no one could find you, thus, you couldn't sell!!! BUT you are still being billed for your monthly store "rent"!! There are a lot of people who removed their items from their stores, but, forgot to cancel their subscription, so 1- they are STILL being billed a monthly store "rent"; 2- eBay won't notify them of the fact they also have to cancel their subscription. Why should eBay?? eBay is getting money from a store with no items in it!! Think they'd be THAT honest????

Don't know if this answers your question, but hopefully it's given you some insight to the greed going on there!!
