You are confused.
CEOs are hired to make money for their shareholders like you and me.
Teachers are hired to teach our children.
And every parent is supposed to open a 529 when their babies are born to pay for their education.
CEOs are not supposed to pay the education of our children. |

There will always be poor people among us. Give all the money you wish and it will still be there. If I was making lots of money (is $32.35 and hour a lot to you?) how much do you think I should give? What would satisfy your need that a person give? Millions of people give billions of dollars. When is it enough, NEVER. |

because if we had to struggle to get to where we are then shouldnt everyone else? should there not be a level playing field......
now if they were born with a silver spoon then they are likely donating money to schloarships and stuff like that to pay less taxes to the gov't
p.s. we have families that need help too |

Perhaps if we did not have troops in Iraq and the Middle East, perhaps we would be able to pay for more educational services and do more for the needy. |

The position of CEO is a two-way street.
The salary of the CEO is based on the money that the company offers to get the best person to fill the position.
If a company offered a salary of $250,000, and that's it, who would take the position, in a market where experienced CEOs go for a lot more?
The answer is that company will get a lot of applications from people who aren't qualified and don't have the experience. If they hire the best person that will take a $250,000 CEO salary, it is likely that they will not have a strong leader in the position. And the impact of mistakes in that position - whether to concede to unions on wages, whether to pay for political lobbying, whether to close a plant, or spin off a business division - the right or wrong decision is worth many millions of dollars to the company.
Since the stakes are very, very high, corporations place extremely high importance on getting the best possible talent in those positions. Furthermore, many corporations try to pay with 'incentive compensation', basically saying that 'here's what the company is worth today, and here's the stock price, and if you can make the price grow 10% or 20%, something that benefits all the shareholders, you can share in the growth'. This is generally preferrable to paying a straight salary, although if the CEO does well, the pay goes to very high proportions.
If you think about it, if a company did not pay its CEO so much, what would it do with the money? The answer is that it would go to the shareholders, the owners of the business. CEO pay comes out of the pockets of the shareholders, not the pockets of charities.
The fact of the matter is that both corporate CEOs and large companies give large sums of money for all kinds of charitable causes (Bill Gates alone gives an astronomical amount of money away every year). |

Good CEOs/business owners are good corporate citizens, who give back to the community.
However, after you do some research, you will find that most business owners had to give up a lot of love, effort, time, and money to get where they are. The American dream is to be financially independent. I worked my rear end off so I could realize the dream. I give back to the community, but my reward for all of the pain I suffered to get where I am is my reward. I can now spend time with my family, volunteer, and provide financial assistance to those with less. How do you measure how much a "little less" is? If I make $750k a year, before taxes, how much is a little less for you? |
