TRISTAN | Why did Wal-Mart stop its layaway program? |
I feel that the layaway option was very useful to people who actually came and paid for their things on time. Does anyone feel that it was the people who didnt pay for their stuff messed it up for everybody? |

yes the people who left their merchandise in layaway .. so the items were not on the sales floor able to be sold was the biggest reason why the practice was eliminated |

That is exactly the issue. The problem was that with the rise in usage of credit cards, they said that people were not using Layaway like they did 5 years ago. Not true in the store I worked in. There is actually a fairly chunky payroll expense involved with Layaway. at Chrsitmas time we had 20 people back there on black friday. Plus running 5-6 people every day after for about a month. Then you have issues with people not picking up stuff and you having to move it back to the floor, then price changes, and getting stuck with merchandise that wont sell after the season.
But yes, Layaway was a good option and shouldn't have been discontinued. |

My cousin who works for Wal-Mart said the reason they got rid of layways is that they want to push their Wal-Mart Credit Card to people. She said they didn't realize that people who has bad credit who can't use the credit cards will use layway to get their stuff paid for and now those people are out in the cold. |

everyone has a credit card and it charges interest more money. |

It must of been an area location decission, layaway strong as ever in Kansas City. It could be from the lack of use in your area. The amount of layaways was to low to make it worth it. |

Layaway was a waste. It used up space and anytime product sits in one place it is costing the company money. If you want something then save up the money and buy it!!! Put it on your credit card so you can make america go further into debt. Layaway really wasn't a system that helped people out, I don't understand why its such a big deal to get rid of it. |

It is because there are so many ways that people can get the items that they want, and get them now. The layaway part of wal-mart was lacking, and that was one of their big profits, but with the credit cards that any1 can get now days...it wasn't worth it. |
