Oh I hate them too!!!!!!!! it ends up taking longer than it would with a real cashier, inevitably something goes wrong and a cashier has to come over and help anyway... and the people in back of you on line get angry much faster and the anger is aimed at you since you are your own cashier lol... they do it to save money - less employees, less money spent on wages, and benefits... its a win-win for them... and a frustrating experience for us ! |

well wal-mart has been in us for years. and its very busy since they are 24 hours open. and they prefer self service since people could do it by them selves and not stand in long lines to even pay for one thing they have. |

All the stores that use self-service checkout lines did it because it's cheaper.
Their main purpose is for people who only have a few items so they can check out quicker.
They're very efficient and easy to use. People get confused by them for no reason at all. Just scan and bag, scan and bag. |

Becuase they are more convenient. I love the self serve lanes. I prefer to use them than using a cashier checkout. I don't like having to stand in akward silence while someone is checking out my grocerys. It's too uncomfortable. |

I wouldn't know, because I work for a union, and thus, don't shop at WalMart. But, stores everywhere are doing it to cut down on labor ... just another way that the next generation will not have any jobs available for them. So many entry level jobs are being automated. This is NOT a good thing. |

where do you live? I have been dreaming about that! I always thought wal mart portrayed themselves as the American way and would never do that. I live in a big city and our walmart only has 3 cashiers all the time. |

because they are quick for like the people that are purchasing not as many things as you are! its not about the employees people are getting aggravated that they have to stand in those long lines at walmart and it plus you dont have to use them! |

I like using them myself, because I was a cashier and I know how to use the things. It's the 4557633767365 people that get in the lines and are SO.FREAKIN.SLOW that I can't stand. How hard is it to scan the item and then put it in the bag? DUH!!! |

I love it. Home Depot and Fred Meyers have them. Wal mart and Target don't have them where I live. It is convenient enough for me to go to those stores just for the self check out system. Wal mart lines move too slow... Target is fast though. |

cuz they have too many customers to check out everyone of them.....they are lazy!! but the self service things are SOOO fun!! everytime me and my sister go i use the self service thing!! i dont think our wally world has them but i know that our krogers does and thats the store that i was talking about but ok. im going now.....lol |

For faster check out. I prefer to use them myself. I don't always want to talk to the cashiers or even interact with them. I prefer to scan the items myself to keep from being double charged. I've had cashiers do that a few times & I have to return to the store for a credit or cash back. |
