Italians (along with many other peoples) have a love-hate relationship with the United States. Basically they criticize the interference of the US government into Italian political affairs (it has been proven that the CIA poured huge amounts of money into anti-communist parties in postwar Italy, and even sponsored and abetted right-wing terrorist attacks in Italy up into the 1980s), but nearly every other Italian has a near or distant relative living and working in the US, and would jump at the opportunity to move there (particularly in California).
It's always funny for me to see somebody in Italy loudly criticizing the US for this and that, while wearing denim (imported from US, of course), sipping a Coca-Cola, typing on a DELL or Compaq computer, and nervously tinkering with the keys of his Ford car or his Harley-Davidson bike... |

I'm italian, and I totally love america and american people!
Today a lot of teens love america and wish they went to america one day... I personally think that if american hadn't existed, here we would have had still Mussolini. American soldiers came in Italy and made us free, even dying for us, and then they went back home.
I will always be grateful to american.
Anyway in Italy we have some politics called la sinistra (the left) who are comunist and think America is consumerism, wars and stuff like these... |
