Simple.....To drive you completely round the bend!!
It's bad enough that you have some sort of technical problem that needs to be sorted but to be confronted by an Indian called Gerald, (as if)! who speaks crap English, this just compounds the problem. Plus by the time you have called him every name under the sun as he insists it is your fault not the companies, they have charged you Β£10.00 !!! |

Cheap labour |

Because it is very very cheap. Cheap wages and reduced benefits.
My company just bought one of our very very large competitors and one of the first things we did is got rid of all of our offshore operations and moved everything back to the U.S. No more programmers in India for us!! |

It makes sense to me. They are cheap and keep the caller out of the companies hair and generally the caller gets fed up with trying to understand the accent of someone who doesn't know what they are talking about and hanges up |

Cheap labor - Americans can make 10 - 15 per hour that's $80 - $120 per day per person. In India they make like $1 per hour. It's all about the Bejamins |

It's to upset us. We are forced to speak to someone who doesn't understand our accents or culture. It's pathetic. I've had some very bad experiences. When I get someone from India, I just hang up. |

They do that to save money. Personally I think companies that outsource jobs should have to pay an annual fine. For instance if Company A reports that they'll save 2 million dollars a year by moving their call center to India then they should be fined 2.5 million. I guarantee you that'll put a stop to that sh*t. |

Save money.
Toshiba Canada has its French call centre in Quebec, Canada

It is all down to cost of employment and wages.
It would cost them a lot more to keep them in this country.
It is totally annoying though when you can't speak to someone in your own mother tounge, even though these are british companies. |

The quick answeris to save money. |

instead of paying someone here in U.S. $15.00 an hour they could pay someone overseas $5.00 for the whole day. |

They can pay the employees a fraction of what they can pay someone here without benefits. |

It saves them a lot of money because of lower wages |

In our global economy, all things considered, the cost of materials are relatively the same. The major differentiator is the cost of labor. Call Centers are staffed with people and the cost of labor is a big factor in their cost justification. Therefore, companies will continue putting their cost centers in places like India, the Philippines, Mexico and other third world economies until the price of labor starts to even out and then perhaps you'll start seeing them return here.
Hope this helps. |

Because they're cheapskates!
It's a lot cheaper for them to "outsource" rather than pay people a decent wage in this country |

The companies try to provide the cheapest call service by "outsourcing" this function. Often they set up a call service in India, as it is cheaper to operate from there, and India is fairly well endowed with people speaking English.
Of course, it may mean that the call service operator does not have very specific local knowledge or even know the UK geography particularly well, but if the service requires nothing more than answering calls and recording orders, or noting down queries, they can do it fairly well, and more cheaply than an answering service based in the UK. |

because they can pay the workers cheaper. also, its a good way of providing jobs in areas of high unemployment |
