Why do companies have to grow to survive?
I found this citation in a book: “Companies that do business in expanding industries must grow to survive.”

Why is that so?

If the company is growing then there is more demand. More demand = more expansion to supply more to meet the demands.

because they need the money to keeep them in buisness and if they dont have money to pay for everything then they wont stay open

Because there are only 2 possiblities, either grow or shrink. Nothing stays the same.

If your company shrinks, it will not survive.
That leaves growth.

There competition will run them out of business if they don't. They must continue to increase with new products or services as people are always seeking new things and get tired of the same old thing.

Survival of the fittest. You dont grow with the market another company will. The bigger it gets the more it will eat until there is nothing left for the little guy. That's why the little guy starves in the face of Wal-Mart, Sears and the rest.

Because their competitors are growing. If the company remains stagnant and do the same thing over and over without any effort to expand their business, their competitors can crowd them out of the market.

The competitors will strive to get a bigger slice of the market, and increase their market share. But if another company is increasing their market share, then that means that another company is decreasing their market share (assuming same number of competitors in the market).

If the company starts experiencing a declining market share, then it could affect their bottomline -- which could threaten the company's survival

Hence, companies have to grow in order to survive.

For one thing, the employees want more money for being there a while, whether there is more production going on or not....
