Why do movie theaters raise tickets and movie concession prices for? is it because of online privacy?
My local movie theater which only shows movies during and matinées on Saturday and only on Tuesday during the summer is raising their regular admission prices to $7. on this Friday. Right now it's only $6.50

Why would movie theaters raise their ticket prices and concession stand prices to see movies for? Is it because of a online privacy and people online watching them for free without paying to see them on the big screen? What's the real reason movie theaters do this? Are they told by the movie studios to do this? What's the real reason for movie theaters raising movie tickets and concession stand prices? Are movie tickets being affected by the rising gas and food prices?

The link to my local movie theater is below.

Additional Details
Could the movie theaters lose business over these rising ticket prices? Would people be more likely to wait the movies to come out on DVD instead?Would people decide to go to the less often because of this? What kind of effects will rising ticket prices have on the movie theaters?

Let's see if I understand your question correctly...

You said 'LINK' to your 'local movie theater'... Correct?

Then I guess all the 'pirating' stuff is probably VALID!

I was thinking more about the 'Ushers', Concession-stand people, Projectionists, etc., if you where GOING to a REAL 'Theater'.... Sorry for my lack of knowledge....

However, I have no doubt, that with everone else RAISING their prices... YOU should NOT be surprised that YOUR LOCAL 'theater' raises THEIR prices....

ELECTRICITY goes UP, the WATER bill goes UP, the WASTE COLLECTION goes UP, the POSTAL service goes UP... Did YOUR wages go UP???

It's a VICIOUS cycle... TOO often, it's the OLDER people whoi take the BRUNT of it... FIXED INCOMES, and such... which you probably are NOT familiar with...

I suggest you buy a deck of cards, or maybe a couple... Learn how to play 'solitaire', 'pinnochle', spades, and such! Stay away from POKER... if you can't pay for your 'movies', you can't afford to 'LOSE'....

But, you might have some FUN... learning about how the cards fall...

GOOD LUCK!!!

I wondered where you lived, because I would love to pay $7 for a ticket. Over here we pay $10 - $12

Mrs. Lovett
Its been like that forever... I took my 3 kids to see Horton Hears a Who... with tickets, popcorn and drinks it was like 50 bucks... that is what makes the illegal sites so appealing... I would rather hook the laptop to the tv and get the ol' microwave popcorn out for a real cheap night!

First, the word you were looking for is "piracy." Online privacy is a good idea, but not related to theater charges.

A movie theater is an expensive place to run. First, you pay to get the movies. For an independent theater, you pay directly. For a chain, you pay membership. Then you have the costs of the building itself... rent, upkeep, monstrous heating and cooling bills. People are expecting nicer theaters now, so you have to install stadium seating, which costs a fortune while reducing your capacity. And, of course, you have to pay your staff.

None of these costs are static. Every expense you have increases over time. Rising fuel prices mean that heating and cooling costs skyrocket. Minimum wage increases have devastating impact on small businesses of all types. Aging buildings cost more to maintain than new ones, but building a new space is an astronomical expense.

Of course the prices of the products will continue to rise. It's simple economics.

MAGIC
its because of piracy and watching online imageine if somone copied a movie and put it online for millions of people to see. the movie makers and the actors and everyone who helped make the movie wouldn't be making any money or only some money then what they are supposed to be making so movie theaters raise the price so the people who made the movie get the money they should be getting and the other people have to suffer

the money also goes up because people sneaking in and not paying.so they need other people to pay that money back. also they may lower snack prices because they are so expensive. and raise the movie prices so people can have a great snack with the movie.

or they just may want more money like for a huge hit movie remember when the movie 8 mile game out? they were sold out so fast and in the next showing of the movie they raised the prices up i think 75 cents more or around $1 more because regular movies are regular and blockbusters are the newest, best, up-to-date type movies like in my example involving eminem as a main character in a movie it made more sales then other movies in the theaters at the time.
same thing with what happened recently with the releases of the movies: get rich or die tryin, and american gangster. the price also depends on the movie you are viewing not just the regular rate the theater has for example a childrens movie maybe cheaper and an adult movie or it might be longer runtime then the other.

Sean
It has nothing to do with gas prices. This is because no matter what, people will go see a movie. They come out and your so eager to watch it you'll pay mostly anything. And its not like you have another choice to a big screen like the massive ones in the movie theaters. The movie business is booming because the people who own them are smart. The prices rise, people still come. Its the way of life! In my neighborhood AMC theaters charges 10 dollar for admission and 4.50 for a small soda.... your lucky

You're freaking out way too much over a .50 cent increase in a movie ticket.

It's called "inflation". A nifty concept invented by the Federal Reserve bank.

People will pay that much for it.

meowqueen1953
almost every industry is affected by the rise in gas prices. The price for wheat (flour) and eggs is also going up quickly. All of these things plus the fact that with higher gas prices more people will opt to stay at home has to impact the decision to increase ticket and concession prices.

Angiee ツ
Well movie tickets and prices have been going up for a while now.

YES the reccession is affecting everything pretty much, because not a lot of people can pay for movies, so they raise the prices up on everything to keep themselves in buisness. Also, the reason why the movie prices are going up is because people like to sneak in and that raises costs as well.

yes, online privacy.

piracy could have something to do with it too.

It's called INFLATION. It is a perfectly natural and health economic phenomena.
