Because the "bigbox" companies are killing the "little man" and many "Mom and Pop" companies have had to go "belly up" becuase they cannot compete. Personally, I love WalMart. I feel bad for the smaller companies, but the bottom line is that I have to go where I save $ and get the best selection. Times change--that is just the way it is. |

For me...
Any superstore nearby that's open 24 hours a day, is the one I go to...
I don't give a damn what the "name" is...I live the nightlife...I usually need stuff between midnight and 6:00...so the local "Wal Mart" works fine for me...
But during the day, the lines there CAN make you hate the damn chain...I just grin and bear it... |

Well there is a lot of reasons why. I used to work at whole foods market and they brainwashed us with environmental studies. Walmart supplies multiple companies that do horrendous things to animals, like pump steroids into cows and not clean they're stables so they are sick when they're killed. Another thing is they use GMOs(genetically modified organisms). These are plants with tampered genes. Like a tomato with fish dna so they can survive the winter. The USA allows them but many European countries don't and they are outlawed. Theres a lot more but basically Walmart isn't environmentally friendly and thats why a lot of people hate walmart. |

Hate is a strong word, however the general feeling is that Walmart can sell things super cheap because they get a lot of their merchandise from China and India, leading to job loss and manufacturing company shut down here at home.
Also, while they might pay more than minimum wage to some employees, they are also employing illegal immigrants . Not on the surface, but the cleaning companies that they use hire only illegal immigrants who will work for much less than minimum wage, thereby taking a job away from some person who is just trying to make a living to feed, clothe and house his American family.
So not only are jobs being shipped overseas with shut down of factories here at home, but given the option they choose cleaning services that employ only illegal aliens that are paid under the table for far less than minimum wage, taking the job away from some person here at home. |

Because wal-mart is able to sell their products at such a lower rate, it runs mom and pop shops out of business. They also didn't treat their workers very well in terms of benefits/discounts. This may have changed in the last couple of years, but I'm not completely sure. |

I don't think its a question of Hate, I think it's a question of principles and conduct, Wal-Mart has cheaper prices because they ship raw materials to China, and import most everything they sell from factories they have in China, also there buyers, go to bat with suppliers to push them into selling there name brand items for less than the cost of making these items, because Wal-Mart buys in such high volume it makes it hard to resist from the suppliers point of view, but this tactic has ran many American businesses out of business. For example today there isn't a factory that makes Televisions in America, Wal-Mart ran them out of business, and the list goes on in many areas of the things you purchase. The Jobs Wal-Mart has created in most cities pays them much less per hour than there previous job, and gives them much less in benefits. As for the shopping experience, well each one of has a choice when and where we want to shop, aside from price its the customer service we most want, so I for one feel that if I get great customer service I will pay more and never think about it. My own experience with Wal-Mart is that when you look around, and wander around for what seems like forever, and finally find an associate, they either seem to go the other way, or stand there like a deer with headlights in there eyes when you ask them a question. You decide whets important to you it’s your money, and your choice where and when you want to spend it |

Not only is it the largest most successful retailer in the world. Most businesses dont thrive against WALMART. Items are cheaper, more selection, different varieties.. BASICALLY too much competition. Target has expanded many of its stores, but as far as taking over the retail world .. WALMART is the winner.
The customer service at WALMART sucks, well at least here in Houston TX I cant speak about other locations. I feel that customer service should be top notch in a store such as WALMART. Cashiers barely acknowledge the customers. Sometimes here and there U will get acknowledged walking in the store. The appearance could be better, a whole lot better. The workers are no where to be found on the main sales floor. Actually you have to walk around looking for them.. to get assistance. The average WALMART has about 100 employees full time / part time . There is no reason that someone should have LOOK for assistance.
Besides the low prices and items, I dont think would shop there as often mainly because of the weak customer service and store appearance.
Also to say that they are making the largest amount of income , their workers are being underpaid and they have no benefits. I find that to be a shame . Their workers also dont have any medical insurance with the company. But I have heard that they are trying to change that.
Anyway to add to my answer. I like this question! |

I hate Walmart because it's bad enough they squeeze out all the local competition, but then they proceed to raise their prices after they do. (And not only raise their prices, but also ditch a lot of the products that gave them an edge in the first place.)
They also strong-arm their suppliers into "selling" them goods at such a slim profit margin that they eventually run themselves out of business (it just takes them a few years to do it because they mistakenly think the relationship with their largest client will get better.)
And that's just the philosophical reasons. On a personal level, I hate shopping there because I don't want to waste an hour walking through their mammoth monstrosity of a building and another hour waiting in line because they can't ever seem to figure out how to manage to have more than two checkout lines open (no matter how busy it is.) I hate how the price on the shelf seems to frequently NOT be the price that shows up at the checkout.
I hate that the parking lot is always like a bad video game with people meandering everywhere like they have no clue about the basic rules of traffic. I hate that people are always having silly little fender benders in their parking lot and, because it's private property, the police won't come. (So, even if you know who hit your car, you'd better have PROOF, of you'll end up paying regardless.)
I figure there are plenty enough people who love 'em that they don't really care if I hate them. So, what's the big deal, anyway? |

This will be an unpopular answer, but it's my truth; I don't hate the chain so to speak, but the entire experience. The clientele. The fact that everything has been opened, tampered with, the contents spilled onto the shelves, the packages. The masses of people milling around that is forever blocking the overstocked aisle. The disorganization. The employees, when asked a question, just stare back with that blank look as if they are uncertain what language I'm speaking....
Everytime I have ever been in a walmart I have walked out feeling frustrated and dirty. Ugh. |

I do not hate wal-mart. I have a family and have to make my money go as far as it can. There good deals make it hard on smaller businesses that can't compete. Wal-mart can buy in very large quantities and get a better price and so they can sell cheaper. I just wish wal-mart had more "MADE IN THE USE" products like it used to. I think Sam would agree. |

I'm not a lib and I, too, dislike WMT.
Here's my premise: The stores are nasty, attract nasty people and generally have a crappy atmosphere. Their employees (associates) run around in those haggard vest, rarely speak to anyone, offer little service and generally perpetuate the bad atmosphere they endure.
Walmart's concept is good, but since Sam passed, it's become a cut-it-to-the-bone culture.
I probably pay a little more somewhere else, but don't feel like I need to shower when I get home. |

People don't...if they did, it wouldn't be so successful....a political block and the status conscious and the snobs don't like them and they happen to be very vocal. My teenager is a new convert to Wal-mart since she got her own job. She purchased her digital camera there on sale for about $100 cheaper than she could find the same model anywhere else. The 24 hour pharmacy is a big plus too...especially for parents. |

They employ mostly PartTime labor so the slightly over minimum wage still falls way below the poverty line. If the full timers are lucky they get some type of health care coverage which is the worst HMO Walmart can find. They forced me to work off the clock when I was a stockman in college in the mid 80's. The products they sell, while cheaper in price, are inferior in quality. Companies that manufacture for Walmart have a separate assembly line for them use, at Walmart's request, cheaper and poorer grade materials. It is unfortunate that the poor uneducated masses who frequent Walmart do not have the common sense to see this. All they see is a cheaper price. Walmart, however, prefers it that way. It is what keeps them coming back every year to buy a new lawn mower. |

Because Wal-Mart only sells edited music, has taken out the alcohol they used to sell in their stores, and because they remove things from the shelves that they find immoral. Also, they don't always pay over the minimum wage.
However, I still do like Wal-Mart. The prices are good and you can find what you need (as long as it's not whatever they've decided not to sell). |
