Why do people hate Walmart?
Yet, anytime I go there, it's packed. I don't see anything wrong with Walmart. They have cheap prices on a lot of goods and if the workers are so underpaid as some people claim, why would anyone stay there? Personally, I think the smear campaign against Walmart is led by a bunch of union bullies who want a piece of the pie....because heaven forbid people get paid for working instead of playing cards all day.

lol...walmart is not a perfect company either..theyve gotten caught not paying females equal pay, hiring maintence companies that had illegal immigrants, buying sweat shop products in the past.but nor are the unions..the unions were great in their time, when both children and adults were forced to work long hours with little or no pay and cruel working enviroments...i personally cant comment on unions since ive never been at a job that had one...but they do have their advantages...i can only speak walmarts view on the subject.according to their website walmart is not against unions, they just dont understand why a third person is necessary when associates are quite able to speak for their selves without fear of reprimand....we have used the chain of command at our store quite frequently and got results.now speaking for myself only (not walmart) am i correct to say that the unions CANNOT promise us a payraise? so that would mean that we would have to pay union fees on our already low paying salary?and if we were to strike..who is going to pay our bills? the union? yeah sure..and what about the customers ? they are supposed to be first..since they are the reasons we have a job..if a customer needs help in hardware, but im a truck unloader..is the customer going to be sympathic enough to wait around for me to find my union boss and see if im allowed to help the customer in hardware?hardware wouldnt be my job..so what do i tell the customer? "cant bother with you its not my job?"...unions are great but not with companies that deal directly with customers.and im still waiting to hear what the unions could do for us that walmart isnt doing right now..we basically just want a payraise and maybe more associates for working...but then that would mean higher prices for the customers....hmm the customer gets the bad end of the deal again...oh by the way ...you do realize that most of those "anti-walmart" websites are actually run by unions? yep the unions forget to tell you that..lol thats why they are so viscously fighting against walmart on their websites....of course they want walmart unionized..it means more money in their pockets..and higher prices for the customers....i dont hate unions. and neither companies are perfect ...im just trying to figure how they would improve our enviroment and not screw the customer in the process....

Welcome to Colorful Colorado
I understand what Emoly is saying and can sympathize with her which is why I will no longer shop at WalMart.

Do you live in an economically depressed area? I too have been to the WalMarts that are jammed packed. Take Rapid City SD for instance... OMG! I have never seen a WalMart so packed in all my life. Yet, I have also been to WalMarts where the crowds are nonexistent like Colorado mountain towns outside of Colorado Springs.

I myself don't ever want to end up working at WalMart; do you know how much less money I would earn? My standard of living would drop drastically and it isn't all that great to begin with, trust me. I also don't wish this upon anyone else therefore I will shop elsewhere.

Employees of WalMart are actually instructed how to fill out welfare forms (I know people who work there). So, in essence you're subsidizing WalMart payroll either by buying their products or with your taxes. Wouldn't you rather have WalMart pay their own payroll?

After Sam died and left the company to his greedy kids the business has gone down hill. Long time employees of WalMart will even tell you this. So no, it's not the unions it's once again greedy executives.

How can a company sell their products at low prices? By getting them at even lower prices. How do you get low priced goods? Cheap labor. Where is the cheapest labor? Overseas in developing countries. What kind of labor laws are enforced in such places? Uhm, very few- if any.

Thanks for saving me a few bucks, Wal-Mart. I really need it since I lost my job at a local grocery store/pharmacy/photography studio/hair salon/bank because the business couldn't compete with your low-low prices and had to close.

Unfortunately, the retarded masses will flock to the cheapest place possible- despite the fact that buying at LOCAL shops keeps their money in the area and can boost the local economy, while Wal-Mart sucks all the funds out of a community and pipes it two states over to build their next store.

People say that Wal-Mart is just a good competitor, so it's well deserved when it annihilates all the smaller business in a community. You know what? That's a ridiculous sentiment. You wouldn't vote for charismatic, suave Joe Millionare just because he strolled into town and offered to cut taxes. Or would you? The people who think Wal-Mart is fine and dandy just because "it's cheaper there" are the same people who might vote for Mr. Millionaire. Intelligent people would ask questions- Where did he come from? What will we suffer, giving up the tax money that funds programs in our community? Analyzing only one portion of the entire package is a surefire way to make a bad decision.

Also, Wal-Mart has a longstanding record of mistreating their employees. Google it sometime. They should form a union and try to get fair treatment... wait. I'd elaborate, but my fingers are tired from all that ranting above. =D

People hate Wal-Mart for the same reasons they hate all the "big box marts" around..... they offer nothing but supposedly low prices and absolutely NO SERVICE! The average length of employment for a Wal-Mart worker is 6 months! They top the list for attrition for corporate retailers. But, Target and K-Mart aren't that far behind with 7.2 months and 9 months respectively.
All the big stores have issues with their employees. How else do you expect them to sell their goods for so little? Duh. It's pretty basic economics. If you pay your people a good wage and treat them human then the bottom line is, that all comes at a cost of goods.
We as American consumers have caused this. The corporate execs aren't the only one's to blame here folks. Their salaries make up less then .5% of their gross (on average). So, you can't just blame the execs.
How about paying full retail for everything? Or, as they say, MSRP?
Give to the economy and stop buying things that are on sale. Just buy stuff that is full price. How's that sound? Hmmm, aren't we just a bunch of cheap whores looking for a price fix?
Pull your head out of your **** and stop spending money on things that aren't necessary and start buying things that are truly needed. You'll find that you have much more money saved for that house you NEED to buy and that car you NEED to own.
Madison Ave. has been brain washing us to buy tons of items we don't need! It will take many years to retrain ourselves to start buying smart. Or, just another depression.
It's your choice America!
Our new slogan should be: Buy Smart, don't shop at Wal-Mart!

Two Main Reasons

1. The clientele that shops there. I have never been in a store that consistently has such rude, nasty, self-serving slobs as Wal-Mart has. They don't like the item they picked up, they just drop it on the floor, not even back on the shelf. They hit you with their carts and then give you dirty looks for having the audacity to be in their way. The list goes on and on about their behavior. You don't have to act low-class just cause you don't have a lot of money...but these shoppers almost seem to take pride in how scummy they are.

2. My roommate used to work there and they DO treat their employees like crap. How would you like to work from 3pm-11pm and at 10:45pm a shipment comes in with 50 pallettes and your boss tells you that even though your shift is over in 15 mins you have to stay until you're finished putting everything away. And they absolutely refuse to give overtime so after you've worked from 3pm-3am they tell you they need you to come in at 9am the next day, but only for 3 hrs so you don't work over 40 hrs that week.

I make it a point not to spend a single penny at Wal-Mart.

Amy D
I love walmart but I do know many people who have worked for them that say they do not treat their employees well at all and most just stay there because its to hard to find another job right now really have no other choice the way economy is right now. A lot of it has to do with they get all their products from china and its taking money away from americans which i can understand but i still shop there lol. Another thing I know someone who drove trucks for walmart and got into an accident and died and the owner called and the first thing he asked was are my thing ok? he never even cared about the drives which is messed up if ya ask me.

As someone who only shops at the food hall in Harrods (well I mean my butler does for me of course), I really don't know what a shop like Walmart is like.

I can;t really imagine being poor enough to shop there. Do they sell $30 loaves of bread for example?

Unless you win the lottery, or nuclear war breaks out- you will be stuck shopping there.

Great... a union bashing format. If you want to know the great things unions have done throughout history, come talk to me. Otherwise, continue taking your christmas list to wal-mart. I suppose you have to go to wal-mart because you don't have "union bullies" getting you better wages.

Jack of Trades
I don't know if it is good or bad in the long run but here are the facts. I will just simply say that Walmart runs a better business that other stores giving the customer what they want thus putting other stores out of business. That is why "competing" supermarkets in areas have banded together and fight attempts by Walmart to build in their area. They will fight Walmart on zoning issues which have nothing to do with their business. So there is a section of the population whose lively-hood is threatened by free enterprise.

Now my opinion. If you think employees at walmart are underpaid then figure what you saved vs. the other store and give that much to the stock boy or cashier but don't think that by boycotting Walmart that the employees at the other stores are actually making more.
