john | Why do people waste money on a Sam's club membership? |
I walked around that store and wrote down food prices on cereal in huge boxes and other Items, and then went to the walmart supercenter across the street and found the prices were the same or cheaper, the only difference being you didn't have huge boxes. |

some ideas

If you have 12 kids, its easier to have one cereal box than 4 around the house. Otherwise, people waste their money on membership because they live in an illusion that they will get better prices. Some items are offered only there, like those huge plastic wrap bins that are so cool and useful at times, especially for industrial kitchens. But I agree it is not worth it. I haven't had a membership in over 3 yrs from there because we kept throwing away the bulk food since it went bad before we could consume it. Some mom and pop businesses depend on the store to help them restock their items. |

I used to own a restaurant and shopped there all the time. I don't think there is much benifit to a personal shopper. I was somewhat able to negociate prices espicially on meats and bakery, but i bought around 100-200 lbs of beef a week. You are right though it usually is pretty close to store prices on many things you still have to shop around and look at things the big box doesn't always mean the cheap box. I wouldn't recomend paying for a membership unless you own a business. |

I agree that the cereal is not a good buy but there are many other things that are. I buy a 300 oz. High efficiency laundry detergent for $10, a 25 lb. box of scoopable cat litter for $6.00, huge combo pack of shampoo and conditioner for $8.00, 3 pack of organic milk (half gallon each) for $6 etc. |

If what you are saying is true, you have a good point.
I would think that it would be cheaper to buy in bulk.
Good question. |

Sam`s club sucks as much as Wally world. Mostly A$$hole small business owners buy their crap to mark it up bigtime to rip off the rest of us. |

of course Sam's club and Wal-mart are the same company started by Sam Walton.
I can't fathom the business suicide you're query presents |

I do because I buy in bulk....you need to look at the unit price that is usually cheaper and you don't have to go shopping as often. I won't pay $4 bucks for a small box of ceral but if the huge one is $5 bucks its cheaper.....I'll buy it. |

Sam's Club will not be competitive with every store on every product. Overall though, members believe that they save enough at Sam's Club to justify paying the membership fee. |

I have a 120 mile a day commute to work. I have a Sam's membership to save on gas. It paid for itself within one month for me. Gas is typically $.07 cheaper at Sam's then even Wal-Mart, so that is why I spend money on a Sam's club membership. |
