It has the identical products as any other store in town, the prices are lower in most cases. NO , NOT EVERYTHING COMES FROM CHINA. They offer better pay and benifits than most, not many others do. They have almost everything under one roof. Is it because you are anal and would rather pay more? |

Short answer - Wal-Mart is big which makes it an easy target. It also emphasizes effficiency which many perceive as a threat.
Having grown up in a small town where "main street" was the only place to shop I greatly appreciate Wal-Mart (and other discount department stores, such as Meijer). The stores I grew up with had pushy salespeople, limited selection, high prices, lousy service, lousy return policies, etc.
With retail establishments I've always thought you could tell how the employees felt about the store by how they treat the customers. K-Mart employees for example have always seemed to be absolutely miserable. Wal-Mart employees always seem to treat me very well so I take that to mean they like the way they are being treated by Wal-Mart.
Major complaints I've heard about Wal-Mart are:
+ it has a strong "no union" policy
+ it bullies its suppliers
+ it hires lots of part-time employees who receive no benefits
+ it destroys local businesses with which it competes
+ it imports the overwhelming majority of its products, mostly from China, which contributes to the US's trade deficit
But I still think it does a very good job of serving both its customers and its shareholders.
Also I've noticed that where this is a Wal-Mart, many other smaller businesses seem to thrive as well, both chains as well as local stores.
Lastly I would point out that Wal-Mart can take a lot of the credit for keeping inflation down the past few years.
Personally I feel smart when I shop there. |

In some places the success of Wal Mart has closed local businesses down. But the flip side to that is that a lot of the people in the community might not be able to afford the prices of the local stores. That's just one reason. |

OMFG, walmart is what is KILLING this country!! they are putting out all the mom and pop stores who run this country. this country is run on, was run on like 85% of small business. we're headed for a monopoly b/c people like you who want it cheaper don't realize the power and control you'll be givign them in a few years where there is no competition. they are the worst thing!! i boycott them and you should too. i know its hard to pay a little more for something b/c if you keep giving your money to the big guys, ie walmark, bank of america, chase, olive garden, etc, etc then all the small shops will be eliminated permanently, which is the SOLE foundation of this country's business economy!
once there are no more small businesses left, do you think WALMART WON'T RAISE THEIR PRICES (their suppliers will have to as well). do you like what the ecomony looks like right NOW?! right now!?!? NOOOOOOOOOO! that should tell you something about those big stores. look it up!!
you say they give lots of jobs, but they are costing EACH STATE (i only know Connecticuts figures cuz i live here) an avg of $2.5 BILLION (yes BILLION) in the state medical budget b/c they won't pay their employees MEDICAL INSURANCE!!!
