Why does Comcast have such horrible customer service?
My bill doubled this month now that the six month "introductory rate" is over. I called to see if they could lower my bill, and if not, I wanted to cancel my DVR and HBO (that had been free). The basic rates for cable went from $28.00 to $58.99, and cable internet increased from $19.99 to $43.99. This is ridiculous.

It took an hour of waiting on the phone just to speak with someone, and they promised to have someone from billing call me. It's been over 24 hours now, and now calls.

Has anyone else experience something like this? I'm moving in a few months, so I'm not planning to change providers now...too much trouble.

Update- I called comcast and threatened to cancel. I had to choose the "cancel" option on the automated phone line. That worked like a charm. They cut my cable TV bill by $20, cut the internet by $15, reduced the DVR cost by $4, and gave me 100 more channels. I still think it's too much money, but it's good enough for the next four months until I move.

Call again! I had a problem with my internet & phone bills being too much, so I called to cancel. They were nice enough to understand and gave me 2 months for free. I have dealt with awful customer service. Usually, you just have to ask for a supervisor. If that doesn't work, I suggest changing companies. It may be a hassle, but it's work it in the end if you get a company that actually cares about their customers...you know, the people who pay their salary?

Having same problem. I am moving soon and doing the same thing. Had direct tv somewhere else a few years ago and they were great.

Because like most large money hungry organizations that prey on people's wallets, they don't care

Oh yes, they are absolutely horrible people. Scum.

The dish companies (DirecTV and Dish Network) are MUCH more pleasant to deal with, then get your broadband via DSL if you can. Not to mention the picture is better without having to pay for HD.

Call up and ask to speak to a supervisor. Use a firm, professional voice as to intimidate the first person you get. They could have done this on the phone, they just are instructed to give you the run around.

I disagree that you'd have more power up front as by the time the expiration date comes for the promo offer they will have "forgot" or "have no record" of your previous agreement.

All you can do is bite then fight... or avoid the scum altogether.

Tim
When you accept an introductory rate, you must know that the fees will go up after that period. You should ask at that time what the fees will be. You have much more bargaining power before signing up than after the period.

Timewarner cable tv did that to me 20 years ago and I dropped them for Directv and got a huge discount forever and more channel and digital service.

We have to teach these companies that we can and will go elsewhere.
