First, a lot of people in the city are too busy to take care of dinner--there are a lot of two income families who have kids in evening activities, and there just isn't time when you get back from work, taxi a kid somewhere, and are getting home at 8:15.
Second, a lot of people in the city are just too lazy to cook. McDonalds is cheaper than a decent restaraunt, so it works for a lot of people.
Third, McDonalds has favored multicultural advertising for many years (20?). When they started, their commercials would be the butt of jokes because they would contain a white, black, asian, hispanic, males, females, and so on--basically one of everybody just so that no one is left out. Since they have so many commercials, now they don't worry that the whole rainbow is in every commercial--they just try to make sure everyone is represented in some of their commercials. Then they can have a commercial with a black family for one TV show, and one with a white family for another show, and an integrated bunch of teens for another show. |

Never knew McDonald's catered to any population, they are merely trying to gain a larger market share by involving a different culture into its commercials. They only try to hit markets that would spend the money at their businesses, be that any segment of the population. After look at all the companies out there who advertise to different segments depending on which commercial you happen to see. The happy meal commercials are geared toward kids, the ones showing families in the ad are geared toward families. They are merely trying to gain a stronger hold in this population, nothing more, nothing less. |
