yahooanswerpeoplerco... | Why does WalMart build 15 registers and use only 3? |
|
|

You might have to climb a mountain in the Himalayas and ask that of a monk...
Or, here's my guess, based on a conversation I had with a former Wal-Mart Corporate employee I once met. He said that Wal-Mart's corporate philosophy is "profit first." So, when the profits are down, employees get cut. When employees get cut, customers either wait in long lines for their low prices or get fed up and go shop somewhere else... either another Wal-Mart or another store... if one is open the time of night the fed-up customer is looking.
Wal-Mart counts on customers enduring employee shortages and not utterly giving up on them. Apparently, so far, it's worked for Wal-Mart.
That's what I think... I work for a company that does some contract work for Wal-Mart... On the store level, everyone's really quite pleasant and congenial... but I have worked with them on a corporate level, too, and that's where your pirhanas are. |

they make 15 registers because they use all of them when they need them especially in busy times for example .. in Christmas, new years :) |

Apparently you have never been to wal-mart during Christmas season, or the day before the fourth of july.
Sometimes, the check out area of wal-mart is like shoppers on crack. It's crazy. I wouldn't work there for a zillion dollars. Day's like I'm talking about - they could use 30 checkers. Saturdays where I live, they use all 15 and more and the line is 5-10 people long in every single one of them.

I think that they are trying to encourage you to buy all the National Enquirer magazines, travel sized hand sanitizers and candy bars that are up at the registers. After you stand there a while you end up with it in your cart! |

Christmas shoppers. They will put as few people on as they can get away with. Money first, customers second. |

LMAO my hubby and i talk about this EVERYTIME we go there |

Because they are retarded people and have no sense... I mean why would they waste money buying those registers and then not use them!!!!!!!!!!!! They have no idea what it is like to wait in line behind a gazillion other people because the people who own walmart get people to shop for them or they order out of catalogs |
|

Once upon a time, Wal-mart used to advertise that you would never have to wait in a line that had more than 3 people in it. If a line got longer than that, they would open a new line so customers wouldn't have to wait.
Once upon a time, this actually used to happen. Now they are too cheap to pay enough employees to cover the other registers, but they keep a number of lines anyway for (as others have already said) very busy times of year. It's not just the Christmas season, but also the back-to-school season and certain busy days/hours all year. |

That's a good question, my dear friend.
I often wonder the same thing everytime I go to Wal-Mart.
Perhaps just to waste more money? |
