They are pretty much a monopoly. Cable or Satellite are pretty much the choices.
I don't understand why I have 250 channels and the same crap is on almost all of them. Throw away the home shopping and the community channels that never show anything and the preachers, and I'll bet there aren't 25 different programs worth watching. But the same program will be on 18 different channels.
What's up with that? Just so they can advertise that you have 250 channels to watch.

if you don't like Mcdonalds you can go to Burger King or Wendy's but in most places there is only 1 cable company to choose from.

FCC not taking our side(consumer), must be some kind of backroom deals to hold the price up. And you are getting less for the Buck.

Hell yes.
I never watch 90 of my 120 channels. But they won't let you pay for just the channels you want. I think the other no-name, government access, religion, and advertisements channels would go out of business if we weren't forced to supplement them with our cable bill.
I don't know if this is everywhere, but my company (lets just say it starts with C) has a complete monopoly in my city limits. You can only get them or satellite. And I live in a multistory building surrounded by trees; so the satellite is not a great option.
Damn cable.

I got some prices from satellite & then called up the cable company & told them I was canceling their service. Time Warner Cable lowered my price & gave me extra channels to keep me as a customer. You should try that!
