I understand why people hate Wal-Mart. What I don't understand, is why they give other mega, discount retailers, such as Target, K-Mart, Meijer, and Costco, a free pass.

I used to live in a union town, so I got to hear the union rhetoric about how abysmal working conditions were, and how Wal-Mart sent X amount of jobs overseas, etc...

Then my brother, who absolutely refuses to set foot in a Wal-Mart (let alone spend money there) had me watch a documentary, "The High Cost of Low Prices", where they told how Wal-Mart kills small businesses, etc.

The thing is, I don't understand what makes any of the other "retail giants" any better, or any other major corporation (such as McDonald's) for that matter. Other than the "union" Meijer, not a single one is any different than Wal-Mart, and would love to be as competetive as they are.

Actually, K-Mart has been known to use sweatshops.

First, there was the "Kathy Lee Gifford" incident. Kathy Lee's merch. was sold exclusively @ K-mart. Also, at one point, before their most recent bankrupcy re-organization, they sold sweatshop produced Nikes, which you won't find in Wal-Mart.

Often, if you look at the labels, and brand names of the merchandise, there are many of the same products sold in Meijer and Wal-Mart.
