Yes the pay isn't the greatest but guess what you get paid for what you do and none of the work is really that hard.
They hire anyone who can pass the personality test, and they don't give them anything really hard to do, minimum pay for Wal-Mart is 7.00 and Sam's is 7.50 because of it being a Club.
Wal-Mart is decent money, is a good place to work at and actually has excellent benefits.
Plus they will help you and your kids in getting and giving scholarships for college and pay for employees to get their GED so that they can further their education.

Okay so I understand that people dislike the quality of products, some people have problems with the service and cleanliness of the stores, But why do people only talk bad about Wal-Mart? What about Sam's Clubs and Neighborhood Markets that are run by the Wal-Mart corporation. |

In the mid 80's Wal-Mart purchased several struggling American companies and saved a lot of jobs. However, after their founder Sam Walton passed away, the people that were running Wal-Mart decided to outsource those jobs. Now, much of the merchandise that Wal-Mart sells is made by companies that they own, by people in China and other countries. Products with an American company's name on it but made overseas. Many companies are going to this strategy to compete. Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of American jobs have disappeared. While we get decent products at a cheap price, we are also causing more American jobs to be lost, and our trade deficit to get larger. That is why I don't like Wal-Mart. I used to work there as well, and that is a whole other rant. |

The thing about Wal Mart, is that for the most part, they tend to place them in rural/suburban areas. This causes the smaller mom and pop stores to go out of business. So that leaves very little employment options for people who don't have a college degree who live out in the boonies with just a Wal Mart, Taco Bell, and a few other places. For some people, Wal Mart is their only hope, unfortunately.
Their starting wages are decent, but they give very measly raises over time. Their benefits stink, they really do. Their health insurance plan is crap and most Wal Mart employees can't even afford it. A staggering number of their employees are on medicaid.
They discriminate against women. 70-80% of their products come from China where they were produced in sweatshops. This means two things. The products are of extremely low quality and even more importantly, the sweatshop workers are basically treated as slaves.
There are a million more reasons why Wal Mart is evil, but quite frankly it would take all day to type it, so I'm going to stop here. |

They use child/slave labor so to keep their prices down. among other things. there are lots of books about them and their lovely business practices. Congrats on the new Baby by the way! Just had my first last October. |

About 20 years ago Wal-Mart boldly bragged about how it gave preference to goods made in the U.S.A. and how many American jobs they created. Today it is difficult to find anything in a Wal-Mart that wasn't made in China.

I have two valid reasons...
First, everytime you go in the place they forty registers with only 2 open and 10 people in each line.
Second, I don't really agree with their business practice. They are the largest importer of Chinese "crap" in the U.S. |

Everyone hates wal mart because they are a leading cause for job loss in this country. Thats just not the retail stores either. They are so compeditive in their pricing manufactures in the USA are not able to compete so everything is manufactured in foreign countrys which in turn puts USA manufactures out of business. Wal Mart is also very good at giving the allusion that they have the best prices on everything. Then they go into small towns and put other business out of business. Which makes the country loose more jobs. Before long we will all be working at wal mart. |

People may claim to hate wal-mart but the bottom line is the bottom line. They continue to be the largest retailer and one of the largest employers. Numbers don't lie. |

I don't hate Walmart. Walmart does more for the working poor than the government--the $4 and $9 prescriptions alone were a MAJOR factor in improving health for a lot of folks, especially as others COPIED them.
You can save a lot of money at Walmart--stretches your dollar. Sure you can get better buys at times on things, but if you're in a pinch, you won't pay top dollar at Walmart.
Stores aren't always too clean; workers don't always speak/understand English--same can be said about a lot of places and they charge more.
No idea what it's like to work for them, but considering some places I've worked if they were that bad you wouldn't find 10-100 applicants for every job. |
