Lost OC Boy | Why does the International Commercial Bank Ghana need my help transferring US $3.5 Million Dollars? |
Does anyone really respond to these emails?
ATTN: MD/CEO
Good day Sir/ Madam,
From: The Auditor Manager,
International Commercial Bank Ghana
First Light Branch
Accra, Ghana.
My name is Benson Kofi, I am the Auditor manager of the International Commercial Bank Ghana,First Light Branch.
I am writing to solicit your assistance in the transfer of US$3.5 Million Dollars. This fund is the excess of what my branch in which I am the manger made as profit during the last year. I have already submitted an approved End of the Year report for the year 2006 to my Head Office here in Accra and they will never know of this Excess. I have since then, placed this amount of US$ 35 Million on an ESCROW ACCOUNT without a beneficiary.
As an officer of the bank, I cannot be directly connected to this money thus I am impelled to request for your assistance to receive this money into your bank account. I intend to part 30% of this fund to you while 70% shall be for me. I do need to stress Additional Details I knew it was a scam, I just think its funny. Someone would have to be really, really dumb to fall for it...especially now. |

It's a scam!! Don't respond! The first time I got one of those I was so surprised and I thought it might be real (was in high school at the time), but then I asked around and thankfully didn't respond. Now, I get them constantly. Some other common email scams that you should steer clear of are those that claim you won the lottery, have a large inheritence, are requested to help a sick person in another country, etc. Those are all scams I've received emails about.
The bottom line is that you shouldn't give your bank account number, social security number, birth date or other personal information to anybody unless you contacted them first through a legitimate company email or phone number that you can verify. If you ever do actually win something, you can always request to collect your winnings by a check made out to you. You never need to give anybody your bank account number. Just remember, if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. |

It's a scam and yes less than 1% respond to this nonsense, some people respond more than once and lose a lot of money. |

They don't need your help. But they'd sure like to have your personal information, so they can get at your money.
I wouldn't think anybody would be silly enough to respond to them - but somebody must, or I wouldn't get so many emails either like the one you got or emails telling me that I've won some phony lottery. |
