Poor management on that individual store's part. They have so many for the Christmas rush, I suppose.
And the fact that they would have to pay checkers more than the minimum wage they pay their part timers, and don't wish to spend the corporate money in that way. Gotta save it for the CEO's billion dollar bonus, doncha know? |

That's probably the best question I've seen. I guess it looks good to people when they walk in, thinking it wont take long to check out. Suckers!!!! :) |

they have the staff to put on checkouts but no one turns up, really if you worked at wal-mart would you be enthusiastic out showing up to a work and for every shift?, I have worked at a place similar to wal-mart in the past, the main problem was people just not turning up to work, standing at a checkout for 5 to 7 hours each shift can get boring and for the little amount of money you get its not that appealing. |

Oh How Right You Are. Kills me. Maybe we should all start protesting. Went to K-Mart tonight spent $193.00 and stood in the only line open besides express for half an hour. Wal-Mart earlier today 50 people 5 lines. Had to finally self- checkout. If I am going to do the work shouldn't I get a better deal? Just like the doctor. Now you miss an appointment and forget to call they charge $25.00. I go and sit and hour and a half after my appointment time they don't pay me. What up? |

It probably depends on the store. My Walmart has most check-out stations available, if not, the check-out lines moves quickly and smoothly. |

Walmart keeps their prices low by having enough, but not too many, checkers. If you really don't like Walmart, why don't you shop at another more expensive store where the employees make higher wages? The fact that so many people shop at Walmart leads one to believe many folks prefer the low prices. |

I often wonder that too. They have so many employees on the floor (which is nice when you need assistance) but not enough checking people out. |
