I think dan the mans answer is a bit harsh on Tesco's, they are easily able to market a shopping experience perfectly balanced with the demographic the store's aimed at. An american Tesco's would be huge, afterall, a stores size is determined by how many people in the area it aims to supply and a set amount of days stock before needing to be restocked. the uk just doesn't need stores as big as america! (so don't try to compare...) Tescos might dable in america, but probably just to learn stuff to strenghthen ther UK/European opperation.

They have actually opened stores in USA.

They are called 'Fresh and Easy' out there.

Luvly
Well perhaps in due course they will.

Tesco might be required to respect planning laws and things in the USA. Much better to sit in the UK and pull political strings.

dan the man with answers!
We think tesco is such a big supermarket which it is. But because were not used to the sheer size of the american one which are vastly superior in every way tesco cannot compete over there you see in comparison with american ones tesco is like nettos, aldi or Lidel to us

Cari
I'm confused as to what you mean by "see how the(y) like it".

In the UK, to my knowledge, the only US-owned supermarket is Asda. Whilst they certainly do well, they're not quite the size of Tesco or Sainsbury's.

In fact the vast majority of retailers in the UK are UK-owned and operated.

Mike
Yeah!
The americans buy most of the things we have here!

jellyinsideout
Tesco are building an empire there everywhere where I am

jakethesnake0888
i reckon they will soon
