Why don't we all stop buying?
gas at Exxon, after a few days, I predict they will lower their price to pressure us to buy gas from them. Then we should stop buying gas at BP, they will lower their price to compete with Exxon, and so on. It is time for us to DO something! We are getting raped!

While you have the right idea and I admire your intentions, it is no the most practical thing to do.

For instance, in the car manufacturing industry, at least 3 mo. of inventory is kept on hand. Do you know the reason for this???

No, the reason is not for rapid sales events. It's because if there's a strike, then the manufacturer can continue selling cars. Most people live paycheck to paycheck, so who do you think will last longer during a strike?? Do you think most people can go more than 3 mo. without getting paid? Absolutely not!

The oil industry knows that we NEED oil. We can't live without it. Control oil, and you can control entire countries....maybe even the world.

If you haven't noticed, all companies' gas prices are raised at relatively the same time. While this suggests they are a conglomerate working together, it is illegal for them to do so....if that means anything anymore.

Truth be told...they were smart enough to do the math, and they know we can not outlast them. WE HAVE TO BUY GAS!

Going off on a tangent....you may have also noticed that Pepsi and Coke do not go on sale at the same time. Coincidence?? I think not!

It's just a smarter way to do business. They are working together instead of competing against each other. While that may be bad for the consumer......it sure makes for record profits!

Then you dont understand fuel prices and oil companies very well.Right now, consumption is at an all time low (in the last few months) yet the prices are higher due to refining shortages.Just buying from one gas station doesnt do it,and even if we stopped buying fuel for a month,as soon as we started again, the prices and demand would go up.
if you want to bring fuel prices down you....
1.allow drilling and the uncapping of our wells here in the US(capped in the 70's)
2.export some of our fuel to China and India to flood their markets and demand
(this will also gives a better option of offsetting prices set by OPEC)
3. get the environmental lobbyists out of Washington D.C.
4. Lower taxes on fuel(this is about 70% of fuel costs)

Don't know what rock you all just crawled out of, but it's been tried a few years ago and obviously failed.

If you really want gas prices to be lowered, stop being lazy and taking your motor vehicle to the corner store for some milk; if you're buying an SUV, make sure you're going to be hauling other things around and not just said lazy as$; stop idling said vehicle while you wait for someone inside a building that has the same heat or a/c that's pumping inside your cabin; and do general maintenance on your vehicle to make it as fuel efficient as possible.

Oh, and stop whining if you're not willing to change your own lifestyle and accept responsibility for your actions.

I agree. When do we start?

that seems like a good idea that just might work, but i think it's flawed. when we stop buying gas altogether, the price will go down. boycotting one company doesn't do anything because if you watch, you will see an exxon truck putting gas in your locally owned gas station. start walking and buy a bus pass. as long as there are people to pay for it, they will continue to make billions of dollars a year. and, why shouldn't they? people are paying up to 10 dollars and more per gallon for starbucks coffees and other luxuries... they just want their piece of the pie!

More than likely because we are so dependent on the automobile to get us to work etc. we really don't have a choice.
