Why if our govenment can do what it wants as Bush says, why can't he demand a cap on gas prices?
Why we can't pump & use our own oil pumped in America? Why oil companies brag on their profit making when we are getting the shaft? The little man without thick wallets are hurting! HELP!!!

What does Bush have to do with the world market price of crude. Crude has never sold for over $70 per barrel until recently. Things may not be as easy to excuse as you make out.
We could produce more oil from our own reserves. But the tree huggers will not let them drill in certain places (the Alaskan wildlife refuge).

Because the last time we had gas price controls was 1973 and there was an oil embargo and adjusted for inflation oil was over $90 a barrel. That's why.

Because Bush is the cause of the high gas prices.

If he stopped threatening to go gung-ho into every Middle East state we wouldn't be paying half the price we are.
Your own oil has been kept pretty much in reserve since 1974 Iran crisis so that we all use up the oil in the rest of the world while the US stockpiles it and can hike up the price when theirs is all that's left

For LinkUS's (see below) benefit
Bush is posturing over Iran's "supposed" nuclear capabilities and intentions. What that does is make the oil markets jittery and Crude price goes up. Unfortunately Bush is just trying to play 'Mr Big' but he has only a small brain to go with it and is so easily mislead by his government agencies (CIA, etc) who tell him what he wants to hear.

Bush: "Tell me that Iraq has NCB weapons and I'll send in US troops [to get killed].
CIA: "Mr President. Our teams haven't, so far, found any of these weapons."
Bush: "Are you saying that there are NO NCB weapons in Iraq?"
CIA: "We couldn't categorically say that."
Bush: "If you can't say there are NO NCB weapons in Iraq, then there must be some so I'm sending in the troops."

They are still looking for those weapons.

BTW guess who are his advisers and their race/religion who are advocating going into action against Moslem states?

For your interest petrol (gas) hits £1 per litre this week in UK. In US terms that is US$6.63 per US Gallon so stop griping! And to think we actually export petrol(gas) to the US.

Our demand for oil has surpassed our capacity to produce it domestically, this is the reason why we import foreign oil. Furthermore, we reached our peak production capacity in 1974, which means we are now following the declining side of the bell curve in our production capacity. In other words, each year we have less production at existing oil fields.

As for why Bush doesn't put a cap on the prices, I've heard a couple of reasons. One includes that he and Cheney are profiting from it. Another suggests that he's rebuilding the strategic reserve and thus unable to cap prices. Hard to say at this point and it may all be speculation as to what really is going on.

No one would send gasoline here to be able to use if they could send it to other countries and get more money for it.
