Why, in your mind, does Corporate America suck? What sucks the most about it?
The small company I work for was purchased by a larger firm about two months ago and ever since the takeover morale has sunk, motivation is low, and everyone does not have as much to do. When there is something to do it takes a lot longer because it has to go through all the corporate bureaucracy. The corporate environment is inefficient and a load of crap in my mind. What are your feelings?

I agree with the greed and profit-mindedness! Our CEO's salary is $290,000 a year!

Corporate America Sucks because the worker isn't valued, no matter what your company's mantra is, you are still and expendable piece of meat. CEO's get overpaid with huge dollars, stock options at ridiculously low prices and companies founder with mediocre stock prices. Instead of piling praise and $$ on some figurehead who doesn't know his a.ss from a hole in the ground, pay the workers a decent wage and provide good benefits and things will take care of themselves. Keep paying CEO's and Board members a ton of cash for sitting on their laurels and cutting heads and the American economy will continue to be second rate.
IMHO!

holymoley
corruption of greed and profit minded executive!!

Alias Smith & Jones
Not all large corps are bad, but generally, I agree with you and understand why you all have this feeling.

IMHO, "corporate America" sucks because it is so cautious. In my experience in the corporate world, there is too much fear - on the part of senior execs who are afraid of shareholders looking for constant upward stock prices; on the part of managers who see expression of different ideas as risky for their careers; and on the part of line employees and individual contributors who get no recognition for working outside of their prescribed areas of focus (i.e. their own vertical function groups).

The worst thing about saying this is that I was part of an innovative industry - but, to coin a phrase, size DOES matter, and not in the way we like to think it does.

[ADDED] $290K per year is nothing for a CEO. Are you really working for a company that's all that big? Not that this changes my answer at all.

Corporations are set up to maximize their capital and investment(s). American corporations are very successful in this pursuit. The problems is politics and policy have been influenced too much by corporations and we have politicians to blame for this.

To the extent that we do not crack down on illegal practices is a government failure.

I'm all for corporate America as far as the capitalist business model. However, I have a big problem with huge corporations making billions of dollars paying less in taxes than I do as a middle class American. Also, the greed of the executives is terrible!!

I was employed at a larger bank in the 90's and in the Annual Reports it listed the salaries, bonuses, etc of the top 10 executives and they usually average 20% a year in raise in salary (not including bonuses) but when the regular employees got their reviews the maximum raise would be 5% because "that was what the raise pool allowed". These executives got raises and bonuses regardless of the profit or loss the bank made. This kind of thing is rampant in all of corporate America.
