Richard Branson's "Virgin" brand name is a household name. Amstrad died a death years ago. Nevertheless with £800 million to your name he is still a very successful man. |

alan sugar sold crap computers richard branson sold good music you do the math |

Um.... because Richard Branson doesn't donate all of his advert fees to Great Ormond Street?
(I have no proof, maybe he does...) |
|

SweetlyEvil
|
Because Alan Sugar hasn't come up with anything other than crap computers and tv adverts - Bransons made:
1: Virgin Atlantic and other airline businesses including a futuristic airline into space called Virgin Galactic
2: Hot air balloon stuff
3: Music store and record label
4: Virgin Vie cosmetics
5: Probably other ventures that I have forgotten and missed out.
Clever bloke. I wish I had his dosh - and do you think he's got most of it in offshore accounts? |

Both started their own business and Branson was more successful than Sugar. What is there to be confused about? |
|

Probably because no-one buys Amstrad and yet millions buy Virgin merchandise - you work it out. |

It is because Richard Branson took bigger risks buy selling and buying into much larger companies he has also been very luck. Alan Sugar has taken the long safer business approach with out the bigger risks that Branson took. |

At the end of the day, they are both self made men, and so long as they are happy with thier lives, does it really matter to the rest of us. They have both run succesful businesses and also had thier share of failures.
ps. Should you not also have included Sir Clive Sinclair and Sir Freddy Laker in this discussion? They were also both very similar entrapreneurs. |
