Wal-Mart is not anti-union, they are pro-associate. Unions were necessary when large companies put employees in horrible working conditions working 60+ hours a week with unsafe working conditions with no fire exits. As America progressed we established tough laws that ensure employees are treated fairly and work in a safe working environment. Therefore, unions don't really benefit employees like they used to. If a union were to takeover a store the only mandatory change would be a regular deduction from the employee’s paycheck for union dues. Employees wouldn't be able to voice complaints directly to management, but instead file a grievance so that someone else could complain on their behalf. That would take away the personal job experience and separate the workers from management. Instead of Wal-Mart giving promotions based on skill and work ethic the promotions would automatically be given to the person with the most seniority. The company wouldn't be hurt financially since unions have no authority to force a company to raise wages or offer better health benefits. The only thing a union can do is ASK the company to raise wages and threaten to strike if the benefits are not given. Wal-Mart really doesn't have anything to worry about when it comes to unions. Laws require employees to pay for the union themselves with automatic payroll deductions from every check. Sure the union can demand raises for employees, to which Wal-Mart could just say no. If the union workers go on strike Wal-Mart can hire temporary replacement employees to fill the striking workers positions. When the strike is over the temporary employees have the opportunity to keep their job, which means some of the striking employees will not be able to return to work even if they wanted to. |

Isn't it obvious? Businesses don't like unions. |

Unions would mean proper treatment for the employees...going against all that Sam Walton and Wal-Mart have worked so hard to create all of these years. |

And if these pro-union employees are dilligent enough, they'll branch out to other Wal-Mart stores discreetly and rally enough support nation-wide.
I have no doubt that there are THOUSANDS of disgruntled employees with REAL job related concerns that need Union labor action that would be all too happy to go union.
And if enough stores, and I do see this happening, go pro-union, let Wal-Mart shut ALL stores down....and lose all those millions of dollars each HOUR of a workday.
Bottom line: Wal-Mart Corporation can't do that..and there you have the giant's weakness. Stay tuned: this battle is gonna be good to watch unfold.....and it IS comming soon. |

They would have to pay health care benefits, then profit margin would shrink. Would take longer to become multibillionaires! |

Because it would make them accountable. Horrible company, in my opinion. Did you know Walmart and the Chinese countersued an American company in a lawsuit over TV set dumping? That they cost California taxpayers over $80 million a year because of their employees unpaid health claims? |

As Wal-Mart starts to saturate their markets it will be harder for them to turn double digit growth. One of the costs they can play with is payroll. As profit margins fall they can lay people off. If they are affiliated with a labor union then they will not be able to lay people off as easily. |

The reason everybody shops at Walmart is their prices are so cheap. Unions would force the prices much higher and people would shop elsewhere. Many walmart stores would close down and their employees would be collecting food stamps.
As far as the person who said walmart would have to give health benefits...they don't know what they are talking about. Walmart has health benefits. |
