Why is Walmart not penalized/fined like Bill Gates for creating a Monopoly?
Additional Details Quixotic- simply by Walmart's pricing structure they have made it impossible for smaller businesses to compete.
Give them a few more years, after all they are just reving up to go into the "utility and insurance" business....
There is a difference between simply doing things better than everyone else and deliberately creating a monopoly. Microsoft is seen as a monopoly because over the years it has arranged for a series of situations in which it is impossible for others to enter the market. Whereas Walmart simply provides more services and products at better pricing.
For example, the very fact that almost all personal computers, regardless of manufacturer come with only Windows installed makes it difficult for others to compete against Microsoft. Why would someone buy something else when they already get Windows for free? Whereas Walmart may offer better pricing than other stores, but they are not deliberately manipulating the market so the products cannot be purchased elsewhere.

You have a choice not to purchase at walmart, you have virtually no choice but to purchase microsoft products. Unless you know how to work with linux.

As long as other stores, like Target, K-Mart, etc., exist, Walmart doesn't have a monopoly.

i think because walmart isnt on every corner like windows was on 99% of the computers on the shelf.

The store is just like Kmart and Target and unless everyone has to go to them its not a monopoly. The last big monopoly flap was over AT&T they broke it all up into little bells back in the 60s and now AT&T is bigger than ever. It was such a waste of time. If a system works it works don't mess with it.

Why do you think they are a monopoly? Do they sell something no one else does? Do they stop other businesses from selling products?
Just because they are successful doesn't make them a monopoly.

Well maybe only their lawyers could tell you the reason.
