I would've thought it was the main reason in any business, unless you don't want to give the tax man too much money. |

are you serious? why would you be in business in to LOSE money? regardless of being a big business or a local small business entity, the basis of being in business is to make money. |

Is this a trick question? I think showing a profit insures that they stay in business, at least for awhile. |

Profit is not only important for the small business its also in any other business.
No profit no business. |

It is important for a few reasons
1) The goal of business is to make money. If you don't make money, you lose it, which is not good.
2) If you lose money for more than 3 years, the IRS may say your business is a hobby and won't let you take the losses. |

The reason any one starts a business it is usually to make money to live. So you make a profit to stay in business which is the most important business idea you will get.
Eg --If you say buy a item for $4.00 and sell it for
$4.00 then you will be wasting your time because there is nothing in it for you.Or if you sell the same
$4.00 item for say $2.00 then you are giving away your money and will go broke quickly.
The answer to your question is
To stay in business |

Small business means small capital. If the small capital shrink further by losses, the business will come to an end.Make small margins but rotatation of the capital is a must for small business to survive and grow. |

It's not important if you already have enough money to keep you happy. |

Small business can be very large business. The owner needs to pay the rent, the workers, the insurances, the taxes, the inventory, freight, and all of those things, before even taking home any money at all. If there is no profit........the owner becomes deeper and deeper in debt, and taking home no money at all. If a small business makes no profit for a particular number of years, the IRS defines the business as a hobby, and will not allow any deductions for the business at all. |
