Why is it that Walmart builds like 4 or 5 stores all within a 30 min drive of each other?
and thereby elminates competition .. but then they can't bother to stock half the items on the shelf so you can buy them? Is it that hard to stock the everyday products like Tylenol?

Just annoyed

Isn't it absurd?

Wal-Mart wants to shut out the competition completely. Of course, if people stopped shopping there it wouldn't happen. People do, though. And as long as they do - Wal-Mart will continue to open stores!

the bs show
Well you have heard of Carpet Bombing they call it carpet PROFFITING

Their prices are better for the most part and the parking lots are packed!! They need more stores to keep up with supply and demand.

hmm the reason is that people dont want their 2 gallon tub of ice cream to melt on their 10 min drive home, if they drove 30 min, it would melt and their 5 kids would prob need changing, resulting in the opening of the 300+ diaper packs (diapers flying everywhere!. it would be pure mayham. but as to why they dont stock tylenol to help with the mayham, i still dont know

I have never seen Walmart stores so close.
Around here they are at least 20 or 30 miles apart.
And they stock all sorts of stuff that is needed every day. Sometimes they do run out if someone just happens to want a lot of one thing.
There are replacements for Tylenol called the Equate brand which is the Walmart brand and is the same thing and at least half the cost of name brand.

They do it so they can control the world when the time comes. Wally World already controls the U.S., but they have to have a firm power base.

it is called wiping out the competition and having all the control and if they don't have the things u want or need, it is called bad management

A stock person at Walmart shrugged once and said "We just get what the warehouse sends us" when I asked her why they didn't get such and such an item in very often. -- She was a HIGHER UP stock person! I would say Walmart is a distribution network, not a dept store in the old-fashioned sense, although they like to play the "Old school" and "traditionalist" card all the time.

As far as why they put up so many... Well, they don't do that around my area. But if they do where you're at, I guess it's like Walgreens or McDonalds: the idea of market coverage so complete that you are never very far from one of their outlets, so you have no reason, unless you are so inclined, to go anywhere else. They make your old favorites obsolete in this way. or that's the plan.

I HAVE seen Walmart shut down my favorite grocery. It couldn't keep up with Walmart's one-stop shopping set up that combines department store and grocery. I shop there. But I have mixed feelings about it. Call me a guilty Walmart shopper.

The location of stores is based upon a concept called "retail geography". You analyze where your customers are, where your competition is, and where future stores could be placed. Then you place your store in the perfect location to maximize profits.

One thing you may find interesting is that each WalMart store will adjust their prices based on its proximity to other stores. Just like the Safeway where I live charges higher prices than the Safeway in the bad part of town - not just because the rent is higher, but because they know that I have more income.

Note that in retail geography, whoever moves last typically wins: they can see where everyone else has their stores and can position there's accordingly. You then build a store thats so big that the market can't support two stores of your size. That prevents new competition.

Be careful, Big Brother is listening. My favorite quote from Wal-mart is, "If it's not on the shelf. we don't have it." And then you walk down another isle, and there it is. They just don't want to bother helping you. If you leave the store in disgust, another shopper will come in the door. They don't care, neither does McDonald's. I get awful food, and horrible service, and they don't care. They throw the food at you, and say, "Next!"
