Why is the "virgin group" called so? what does virginity have to do with the virgin company?
I know the name has to do with Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson, but why virgin? was it his astrological sign or was he actually virgin when he started his business?
Way back when, Virgin Records was Mr. Branson's first business venture. The name 'Virgin' was a selling point because records (as in vinyl albums) were sold in a new condition - unlike in other shops where records were being handled when listened to in record booths.

Sir Richard Branson named his company Virgin because when he started the company he was going out into virgin territory. At least that is what I think he says in one of his books.

I concur with "Cat" it was his record business that garnered the name and it was in reflection of his new vinyl and was also the magazine name. It's no accident that it has that double entente as he has proved over the years he has a remarkable knack for marketing.
