Because these two retailers target the same type of consumer. Retailers use demographic information to choose where they want to open an outlet. In a similar way, you'll sometimes see a chain open a store near one of its competitors, which is why the world is blessed with such a saturation of stores, and why competition is so steep in retail. They don't all make it and often have to unload locations that don't pan out. |

duh! it's a coincidence, and the demand stuff.. they would build it near the cheesecake factory so people can buy books related to cheesecakes! it's like asking why there are churches in every town! |

Guess so those who are reading what they have yet to buy have something to munch on while doing so? Where I am there is no Cheesecake Factory inside of Barnes and Noble..... |

I don't know, but it sure sounds good, to me; now, if they'll only add the wine distributors along with it, it'd make a nice trio; eat cheese, drink some good wine, & read a good book. |

In the area where we live, and about every town near here, the B&N stores are not near any sort of food establishment at all. |

It is very interesting if you don't know that those two stores have the same head manager. |
