Sam WALton was its founder.
Sam Walton, a businessman from Arkansas, began his retail career when he started work on June 3, 1940, at a J.C. Penney store in Des Moines, Iowa where he remained for 18 months. In 1945, he met Butler Brothers, a regional retailer that owned a chain of variety stores called Ben Franklin and that offered him one in Newport, Arkansas.
Walton could neither come to agreement on the existing store's lease renewal nor find a new location in Newport. Instead, he opened a new Ben Franklin franchise in Bentonville, Arkansas, but called it "Walton's Five and Dime." There he achieved higher sales volume by marking up slightly less than most competitors.
On July 2, 1962, Walton opened the first Wal-Mart Discount City store. Within five years, the company expanded to 24 stores across Arkansas and reached $12.6 million in sales. In 1968, it opened its first stores outside Arkansas, in Sikeston, Missouri and Claremore, Oklahoma. |

Wal is short for Walton and
Mart is because many used it for advertising and it was popular. Mart might be short for Market.
Samuel Moore Walton began and his brother James "Bud" Lawrence Walton joined him when the 3rd store opened.
Mr. Sam,his wife Helen who conviced Sam about profit sharing and possibly vesting,and Bud cared,but the children do not share the same dream and vision and use what they have as a facade of what they have become.
Ever since Mr. Sam died Wal Mart is only a shell of its name.

This last week one from Cafe and Demo were fired since they earned over $10 per hour. The Cafe associate was there over 3 years while the Demo asociate was there over 10 years. Sam's Club 6625 management is eliminating people to reduce payroll,but this comes from the direction from Home Office in Bentonville Arkarnsas 72716.
People at Sam's Club 6625 start around $8.50 per hour and maybe only one earns over $15 per hour.
You will find how Wal Mart which professes to care about their employees uses Harasment and Intimidation to eliminate people since their image is that "Wal Mart has NEVER laid off associates." Their Global Ethics Office will not look into this.
K-Mart used to be SS Kreske Mart before being shortened K Mart. Sebastian Spering Kresge began the chain. |
