Why is walmart so cheap compared to other stores?

βling βling
Because they buy in bulk, ie the manufacturer may say "buy 1 millions units, get 100,000 units half price". This converts into savings, and thus they can afford to offer things at low prices. They also manufacture things (most of the time) in 3rd world countries, like China, where labour is WAY cheaper

But what does this mean to you, the consumer? Well, as far as most people are concerned, it's that you get to buy twice as many things, for the same, if not less, amount of money

they can negotiate massive discounts since they buy such large volumes of goods

they buy in mass quantities and are able to sell for less.

they don't pay their employees a lot and offer very few benefits.

they also are able to manipulate the price they pay to their suppliers.
for example they can say we will pay you $4 for your towels, if you don't like that price they will buy somewhere else. They are a huge company capable of putting small suppliers out of business.

they have power in numbers.

the sams, costco, walmart companies employ the largest amount of ppl in the US second only to the US military.

because they don't pay their employees well, and eliminate health for them and other stuff. I advice you to watch the documentary on Walmart and its croock ways, it will scare the living hell out of you.

Listen, Listen Good.
Wakmart buys many items from China where the laborers works for much less money than US workers can. I've been to China and have seen first-hand how things are. China is a communist socialist country and people have far fewer rights and opportunities than we have in the US. Walmart and other stores that buy Chinese made goods are doing it for one sole purpose: MONEY. Their greed is causing many US factories to go out of business because they cannot pay their workers $1 an hour (remember minimum wage laws). In China, they job goes to whoever is willing to accept the least pay.

They buy in large quantities from manufacturers in third-world countries who produce cheaply made items that aren't made to last. If people would take pride in their country, its workforce and its workers, they would quit buying crap and pay a little more for quality, American made merchandise.

Mickey Mouse Spears
They're what you call a high-volume retailer (HVR). What they lack in profit margins for each product, they make up for in volume. They also buy from cheap manufacturers, pay low wages, and skimp out wherever possible to save costs. They squeeze every little drop of juice out of their little lemon, then they grind up the rinds and use it to make potato chips. Metaphorically speaking.

Because everything you purchase there is mass produced. Therefore walmart can get all of these items in bulk and sell them to consumers for a lower price. :)

Could be because they don't pay their employees or provide benifits, purchase their inventory from third-world countries and their slave labor.
Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Summer_babbi107*
Walmarts manafacturing is made in China were child labor laws are nonexistent so since they dont have to pay their workers any more then like 5 cents a day they can really lower prices so that they are cheap compared to others.

ray m
they get their stuff from sweat shops

because they buy in bulk and pass it on to their customers the benefit of buying in bulk.

They are not cheap, they are clever, most of the day to day and necessities are cheaper and the rest of the products are either higher or same price comapred to any other company.

as because they deals in a large area with hugh capital . they also create their own goods . they directly take raw goods from producers or primary market . other small dealers have no such capacity.

because it's big

Because they want to make more money.
Lets say you go to Target and you see a
toy that you want, but the price is $10.00.
But if you go to Walmart you can get that
same toy for $5.00.

Walmart puts their items cheap so people
can come to their store and buy.
Thats how every good business men
make good money.
