Chick with Brains | Why isn't there more public outrage with the oil companies' record profits? |
Gas prices have increased due to the increase in the cost & production of oil. But, all else being equal, why are the big oil companies reporting record profits? If consumers are being more frugal in their use of fuel and the per gallon profit has not been increased, what is generating all the additional income? Are we really buying that much more gas or, as I suspect, have the oil companies increased their mark up with no concern for the impact to the average consurmer? Additional Details True, the Chinese have become huge consumers of gas, but who are they buying it from - American Oil Companies? I am guessing they have their own market - but I could be wrong. It would certainly help the trade imbalance with China but that is another topic that hasn't been in the news too much lately. And, I agree, we do have it better that the Brits, but at least they have been smart enough to push for more fuel efficient automobiles while we Americans can't seem to part with our gas hogs. |

It is no secret that the major oil companies are using the high price of oil as an excuse to make more profit from the sale of gasoline. Nothing will be done because the oil companies have powerful lobbyists in Washington, D.C. Also, many congressmen are personally invested with oil companies. The increase in demand for oil in developing countries have actual little bearing on the increase in profit markup for refined gasoline sold by oil refining companies. |

want to yell about it look in the mirror first.
Yes oil companies grease your politicians pockets that is the system you support.
u want more miles per gallons drive slower and smaller cars. grease u politicians pockets to force car manufacturer to make what the customers "say' they want. |

We need the gas. The prices are raised with no regard for anything except profit.
Who are we going to complain too ? The politicians ? The oil companies own the politicians. |

A lot of it has to do with China and India becoming more modernized. Two countries with tons of people that never used to be, but have become increasingly reliant on oil by huge margins. It's all about supply and demand. I'm glad prices in the states are half of what they have been in Englad for a long time. |
