It depends what is meant by positive, if the image presented is a false one then it is probably more important not to present that image. In fact the term image only means a representation of reality...not the reality itself.
The world we live in is always more concerned with illusion than reality...but I can't find a convincing argument to assert that this shared delusion is important.

I think the actual answer is that it provides clarification to those at the very top. If you have a number of organisations and everyone in them is positive and works hard, and one of them succeeds and the other fails, then top management knows to invest in the successful one and close the failing ones.
But if the people in them all are miserable and pessimistic and one company succeeds and the other fails then top management won't know whether it was because of this negativity or the fact that the company was bad.
