Sara | Why? "I'd like a large dark-roast, please." "You mean a Venti?" Starbucks started in Seattle US not Italy. |
"I'm sorry, but we have Tall, Grande, and Venti" Starbucks may use Italian espresso machines, but this company started in Seattle US.
The question is; Do the people at Starbucks still understand the difference between small, medium, and large or not? |

Venti is a trade-marked word they made up. The next time your at "Four-Bucks:", check the (TM) by Venti. Other than that, it means nothing. |

Most do, however, you will inevitably run into employees that insist on the Starbucks sizes being used, even though they know what you mean if you say something else. |

I never thought tall, grande or venti was such an issue. The cups are there on the counter you can see what size they are and I thought venti was more a latin word than Italian. If you can't handle it point and grunt :-) |

Venti is the Italian word for 20.
Our Venti size (or Large as you would prefer it) is 20 ounces. Hence the name.
I think that if you go into a place, at least order it right. I mean, I wouldn't go into a Burger King and ask for a "Happy Meal". Then the employees would say.."we have a kids meal. Happy Meal is at McDonalds." Well they're both the same thing, but if I'm at one particular establishment that specializes in a product, I might as well go along with their special titles. It's not gonna kill you. I don't particularly care when a customer says "medium" instead of "grande". I know what they mean, but when I repeat their order I always say "grande". It's a habit by now. :-) |

I avoid this by not going to Starbucks at all. Every reasonably-sized city will have at least one coffee shop that tastes better than Starbucks. |

Oh, in Texas we have so much fun with Starbucks. We order a Cow Patty size, a Bronco Fart ... just about anything we can dream up to get around that stupid " Venti" crapola. . What the hey is that about anyway? Somebody from Seattle, please shed some light on this phenom. Please.
By the way, the coffee at Dunkin Donuts is just as good, and they understand us. Texas Twang and all. |

maybe that worker was so slow that he/she got confused by the different words! but really, it's just a technicality, it's dumb that they would insist on something like that. |
