Why supermarkets keep closed most of their checkouts?
They have 10 checkouts, and only 2 or 3 are open. Same thing on Banks
at one time they probably utilize all the checkouts ex: Christmas season shopping
but when times are slow
its cheaper (paying wages) to have only a basic few open

supermarkets often need more help on the floor and often send cashiers to the sales floor during slow times. It is the responsibility of the front end manager to detect a rush at the registers and call cashiers back to their registers as needed.
