I am for the bailout with a stipulation that the bosses take a cut in pay. The Republicans wanted the workers to take a pay cut when their pay only makes up 10% of the total cost of the car. The bosses flew to Washington in private jets, does that not tell you what is wrong. |

I agree, no stock options, no bonuses, no incentives, no golden parachutes and no outrageous salary if you take even one thin dime of bailout money. I'm listening to a CNN report as I write that is stomach turning. AIG intends to give out bonuses but have re-named them as "retention" incentives and the lowest amount an employee will receive is $160,000!!! They say they are doing it because many highly qualified employees are leaving AIG to go to other firms and they need to give them financial incentives to stay!! I find that morally reprehensible when they were just bailed out at taxpayer expense! Some of those taxpayers don't even have homes that are worth that much and are struggling to make the payments. I think the financial institutions need a reality check on the salaries they pay and congress should have put restrictions on the bailout money to force them to do it. |

The sad thing about these BIG Bosses is they think they deserve more and then they cry they need help. I'm with you. Take away the SUPER bonus and make them learn to live within their budget. |

Big bosses, as you put it, are paid in stock options - not cash.
If you get paid $10m worth of stock options priced at $80 each and now are worth $13 each makes this bonus worthless, and you can't cash them in for 3 years. (this is what happened at UBS) Also, this isn't money - its share capital.
So the flaw in your plan is that one, there was almost no bonuses paid for the past 3 years as the past 3 years worth of options are below their strike price. Second, it wasn't even the companies cash that was spent, it was the investors cash - your pension cash ;-) |
